Irish couple adopt Indonesian orphan, give him back when wife gets pregnant.

I can't really say anything other than a few glibly cruel one liners about this because I'm concentrating on not trying kill everyone.

The Dowes have one other daughter, Tata.

If they have another, they should call her Byeee.

Lala and Tata... What next?

Well, at least they didn't poison him with salt.

It's funny, I was thinking "If you did this with your own baby, they'd send you to prison", only then I remembered that that's where babies for adoption come from.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 15 April 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

I understand there are still a few other sources for them. Children raised by wolves, bizarre double-decapitations, that sort of thing.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 15 April 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

Also IT WAS THEIR OWN BABY!

Papa, Mama, Lala, Tata, ?a?a

"Mark 'em up, sell 'em on."

They'd had him since he was 2 months old - how could you just throw a child away after two years? I just don't understand people sometimes. I 'like' the way the father said "it just wasn't working out" like he was giving his baby the sack.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

this is pretty strong evidence that the baby SHOULD be parented by someone else.

but good christ this is depressing.

Two years later, when he was left at the orphanage, he spoke and understood only English.

god it's like an ondaatje novel or something.

Holy shit... what bothers me is that the father's quote [“Over time we came to a painful realisation that the adoption wasn’t working out, an extremely difficult and painful realisation to make. It wasn’t something that we felt in Tristan’s best interests to remain with us" ] is so flagrantly idiotic. If a child (this is a two year old) is not "working out" the difficulty is not to do with the child, it's to do with the parents. Adoption or no-adoption. Fuck that man, and may he die.

Papa, Mama, Lala, Tata

Is this the new Teletubby family?

i think this handily explains the recent tsunami, volcano, etc.

Makes you wonder what Ireland's got in store.

Remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

These people are bastards. I have nothing else to say.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

if he had said "I came to the painful realisation that I am a cockfarmer and unfit to parent children" then he would at least be telling the truth.

by the way, I really regret my comment upthread, as I understand that real people who make the painful decision to give up their children for adoption don't do it for the kind of capricious reasons that these fuckers did.

I think they are currently Ireland's most hated people... it'll be interesting to see how long it takes the Evening Herald or Daily Star to find them.
