Such a damning opening thought. -Cowboy Junkies-

moment of beauty. Oh yes. I'd like to second Mark C's point elsewhere that TP played the best I'd ever seen them on Wednesday.

Will, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And they were still rubbish. *ducks*

Nick, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

have you ever seen us before though Will? :) but cheers to everyone who did come along and watched us as well as the Mighty Obscura. i had a really good time - can't remember having that much fun at a gig for ages! (arsey soundmen not permitting).

Who's a road movie? Are you calling Tompaulin a bunch of automobiles? NO! Are you calling them BUSKERS? The Cowboy Junkies? Are you on crack? Can I go home yet? Please?

Sarah, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just want to say that at first I really thought Tompaulin weren't very good (last spring) but now they play their instruments a bit better (evident at Scala gig). I will sell someone the 7"s that I bought way way back when.

I think they are obsessed w/ their reviews and do constant web searches on their name, and then send emails to anyone who has mentioned them. I have seen this twice and now will probably see it again.

marianna, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes I have! ;-) ROTA, Notting Hill, and at the Betsey? (that was more vague a memory...) That makes three in total!

Will, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

marianna do you get unsolicited email from us? mail me and i will sort it out if you don't want it. it's not us it's our manager!

katie, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I got an email from the lead singer after I posted something about Tompaulin to the indiepoplist in April 2000. It was weird. Someone else I know got a flamey email from the same guy after he wrote something that implied that nobody would ever say that Tompaulin had "soul" (a la dexy's). I am not getting spammed by the manager. :)

marianna, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Um - I like The Cowboy Junkies. I may need to hear this appalingly named band....

Pete, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, i thought you meant you got one of our "sporadic updates". nah, well Jamie does take criticism of the band quite personally and is always willing to argue with someone about it. i think that if you don't like us he's OK with it but he won't have anyone implying that we're not sincere and will take people up on it, often at length. which can be quite endearing as he has talked people round, but i can see how it would be irritating.

OK, ILE, DON'T mention the band by name and he won't find it, and no- one'll get flamed, OK? :)

katie, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm going to our office party now (not the ILE office, thank goodness!) see you all tomorrow at the Betsey!

katie, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, no one ever said that he wasn't sincere or passionate. But that alone wont make a good song. Although maybe someone can supply some examples of where it does.

marianna, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it one of those "mention the name and he shall appear" type scenarios?

I'm getting a weird cross-genre pollenation idea for "Doompaulin: The Revenge" here...

kate, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jamie in ARM CARVING 4REAL SHOCKER!!

Sarah, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The singer dude from TomPaulin looks EXACTLY like FatNick did when he was actually fat, same hairdo an' all.

DG, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ackshirely we were discussing Tompaulin down the booZoR and they were compared to Half Mang Half Biscuit (TBH I do not quite see this).

Sarah, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Trevor, you've forgotten to factor "Livin' in the Love of the Common People" by Paul Young into your equation, as Mr Carsmile pointed out to me on Wednesday.

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No-one should ever diss the Cowboy Junkies, for the simple reason that their version of "Sweet Jane" rejected the Loaded version and remained faithful to the immeasurably superior original.

Trevor, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

EW, I'll bear that in mind next time I listen... IF I can bear it, that is.

Trevor, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Trevor, you've forgotten to factor "Livin' in the Love of the Common People" by Paul Young into your equation, as Mr Carsmile pointed out to me on Wednesday."

And what about Reg Presley?
