Get one Dogtown & The Z-Boys.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Old news!!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

This is the new style!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

THEY CALLED THE FUCKING MOVIE "LORDS OF DOGTOWN."

WHAT MORE IS THERE TO DISCUSS?

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

(I know it looks crap, but I want to see it anyway)

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm psyched. And yes, I saw the documentary, too. If you watch the trailer, look for the Peralta cameo in the Charlie's Angels scene.

Girolamo Savonarola, Monday, 18 April 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

i have the dvd of the doc sitting in my house now. is it good?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

THIS IS GONNA RULE.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

i have the dvd of the doc sitting in my house now. is it good?

IT IS BRILLIANT!!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Watch it and then buy some ALice Cooper records!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

SO TRUE

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

the doc is fantastic

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

I listened to Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" LP this morning. It goes good with sunshine, actually.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

i sobbed during dogtown & z-boys because it was so wonderful. i dont know how i feel about a story based on that.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

d'oh, the rest of that should say: with the documentary out, a movie seems kind of a bit too much, you know?

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

a boo and a hiss.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

be one cynic!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

You're right, I can't wait for the TV sitcom spin-off and the Saturday morning cartoon.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

i want my dogtown lunch box!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

You're right, I can't wait for the TV sitcom spin-off and the Saturday morning cartoon.

ABSOLUTELY!

Samuel Glickstein (nordicskilla), Monday, 18 April 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
I'm a fan of the original documentary, but this film is just going to suck a big box of dicks.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

one man's big box of dicks...

the black hand, Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

I actually think this could be better than the doc which was way too long and devolved into the same footage over and over again combined with annoying men talking about how great they are over and over again.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

First 45 minutes was amazing though.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

If you really cared, you'd live in Dogtown.

Word.

EComplex (EComplex), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't that the ILM documentary?

the black hand, Friday, 27 May 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

msp, age 13 asks, "hey mom, where's my dogtown t-shirt?"

it was all downhill from there. and florida's pretty flat.
m.

msp (mspa), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

annoying men talking about how great they are over and over again.

that was definitely annoying.. especially how peralta MADE the documentary and a big chunk of it is about how awesome & revolutionary he is (and he doesn't even acknowledge the conflict of interest, really)

msp (mspa), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

anybody find the non-period tunes a little out of place?
m.

Completely. What the fuck are Sparklehose, Rise Against and Social Distortion doin' there? Even the covers ("Death or Glory", "Nervous Breakdown") are illogical, chronology-wise.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

So they paid Zeppelin a zillion dollars to include a song (Nervous Breakdown?), but they can't even tack it onto the soundtrack?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

The doc was total crap.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

the amount of purposeful obtuseness on this thread is sickening!

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

bro!

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Skateboarding history, an ENDLESSLY FASCINATING subject!

(men with a boardboys fetish will def be checking it out)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Black Flag, not Zep.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

just rent real skating videos. there's no plot, just lots of neat skating and generally much better soundtracks.

i'm interested despite myself. i just saw star wars and had fun, and i figure lords of dogtown has to at least have better dialog than that.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Friday, 3 June 2005 06:29 (twenty years ago)

but its directed by the lady that did THIRTEEN which is easily one of the worst movies ever made!!@!#!@$!^%&^&#%$@#

charleston charge (chaki), Friday, 3 June 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

wasn't fincher attached to this at one point?

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Friday, 3 June 2005 06:54 (twenty years ago)

oops, I meant "Communication Breakdown" for Zep.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

i hope IT'S OUR TIME BROS turns into an international meme

Vichitravirya XI, Friday, 3 June 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

fincher was attached (he was also attached to MI:3 around the same time which woulda been rad)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

nine months pass...
Heath Ledger was awsum, much moreso than in Brokeback. The first half had its moments too (that creepy Emile Hirsch's let's-fuck dance), but again ... A Star is Born for 'boarders.
