A UK Newspaper, The Sunday Mirror could face a libel case for wrongly identifying a man as a convicted rapist who had won £7m on the National Lottery. After the error was realized late Saturday night, more than 10,000 first editions of the newspaper were withdrawn from sale in Wales, the West Country, the Tyne Tees region and central London.

The newspaper claimed to have tracked down Iorworth Hoare, 52, a convicted rapist who won the lottery in 2004, to a popular British seaside resort but used pictures of the wrong man. In order to prevent the media and the broadcasters from using the false report, Mirror Group Newspapers sent motorcycle couriers to pick up or buy back copies.

Incase the wrongly identified man decides to take legal action against the newspaper, it could prove extremely costly to the Newspaper. In May 2004, Piers Morgan was sacked as editor of the Daily Mirror after publishing faked photographs of abuse by troops in Iraq.

What a phenomenally stupid thing for them to have done.

Unbelievable. It almost seems redundant to point out that that "wrong man" could have been me or you! I hope he sues the fuckers, and puts them out of business - 1 red top down, 2 to go (this is a pipe dream, I know)
