"Mutual of O-Ma-Ha is people..."

He was a badass, better than that freaky Australian copycat. But I always got the feeling that the episodes were filmed like 15 years earlier, so consistent in the production values.

classic! if only for sunday morning (was it sunday? or saturday?) nature creepiness!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

I think it was Sunday night, after "Hee Haw."

hmm i remember it being a morning show, but it was probably syndicated so different time slots for different cities. hee haw was sat. night in the 'ville.

Mm, you might be right, I have memories of eating chili & cornbread during Hee-Haw, so that would have been Saturday.

The episode where he, not Jim, wrestled the ananconda = classic.

i imagine, but don't remember, that there might've been tons of obvious racism on the show.

No, it wasn't racism, it was speciesism.

naw i mean like on their adventures they'd "visit" some african tribe and marvel at their "primitive ways" or somesuch. but maybe i'm just projecting.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Well, I imagine they 'persuaded' a lot of villagers to go change out of their pullovers, shorts and flip-flops and come back in a grass skirt and beads. The end justifies the means, however.

andy --, Tuesday, 19 April 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

yes, we are all richer for it. except for the villagers.

Marlin Perkins was like Art Linkletter, minus the pizzazz.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

I thought for the longest time that the show actually took place in Nebraska.
