just found the salon article about two hours ago and began following the links. the sad ending is one thing but the more I read, the more inspiring her accomplishments became.

i can't believe she was only 28. My life is worthless in comparison. What a person, and what a loss.

Learned about her through TalkingPoints mentioning this. It's stunning to see what she did, and terribly sad to realize what has happened. Kyle, don't berate yourself that way -- it's understandable but still.

what a shame and what a person.

I'm not really berating myself! that would be selfish. But really, when you look at someone's life like that: so much to admire. It makes you want to do something as worthwhile. But the truth is there are so few who can do so much. Which makes the loss even more depressing.

no actually what I got from that story is that she made it obvious just how possible it is for one person to make a change. you just decide to do it.

not that her degree of courage isn't unusually rare, but most people from the outset already decide that a change isn't going to be possible. so they get used to impotence, and reading these stories is just such a weird example that it actually isn't impossible once you commit.

so what I am going to commit to now, I wonder, I'm not sure yet, but I'm glad to be thinking about it again
