ilxor.com is down

But ilx.p3r.net is not. I imagine this could be a problem for some of our more casual users. Any idea why this is happening, overfiends of ilx boxen? (Maybe this could be the chance to actually turn ilxor.com into the real address, too, rather than just a landing page?)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

*cough* I'd been wondering about this for some time with my fellow mods but nothing was forthcoming, so if we could talk about it more now...?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

ilxor.com bounces me to ilx.p3r.net.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

strike that, it bounces me to ilx.wh3rd.net.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Yeah teeny, it often does that for me too. But it has sporadic and lengthy outages, like now, for instance, at least for me.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

so why are there 3? p3r, wh3rd, and .com ?

So what is the story? Anyone...?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

i can never get safari to redirect from ilxor.com. firefox works fine. i asked my big techy mate and he gave me some complex explanation about how safari handles DNS redirects and ... hang on ... here it is:

The whole ilxor/wh3rd/whatever the other one is DNS foxiness, and its habit of passing changing documents with static types and all the smoke and mirrors shit it does drives Safari utterly bonkers and, as it is sent all over the place by DNS renaming and header spooging, it ends up with no open network connections and complains to you or just falls silent.

The solution, I've found, is only to use the "real" ILM server
address, and forget about all the others. Although Tiger Safari is
better about them.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

I just type ilx into my browser and the auto-complete drop-down thing gives me board=1 (ile), board=2 (ilm) etc. I find it much quicker than mousing and it means I hardly ever go to ilxor.com.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

I have http://ilx.wh3rd.net/index.php as my homepage seems to work okay, I get the occasional poxy-fule.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

i just click the favicon linking to http://ilx.p3r.net/newanswers.php?board=1 in the Firefox Bookmarks toolbar - you don't even need to give it a text label. WOO.

Oh, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge.

I just remembered - I rec'd a renewal notice for the domain name a while ago, and I backburnered it. I'm really really really really sorry about this - I'll get on this ASAP (unless someone is already on it) (or no one cares).

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

It would be strangely fitting if some creepy porn site bought the domain name.

Leon hearts Crazy Frog (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah shit if its been left to lapse and someone else has nabbed it, then its too late to fix that.

But you dont have long to get it renewed =) This doesnt explain why redirects might be broken btw.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

No, the redirects have been sporadically broken for over a year. And clicking on actual threads always redirects to "p3r" or "wh3rd".

Because people who don't know about the "alternate" addresses don't have any way to get to the site. Plus it just feels kind of sloppy.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 4 June 2005 00:56 (twenty years ago)

OK - the domain's actually good through August. However, I was going to transfer the domain from where it is now to my Dreamhost account, if that's OK w/ folks.
