Who all up in this etc. works evenings and nights? (Job change potential)

I am getting very bored and burned out in my current job, and I just noticed a job posting today within the same university, and it's evening/night shifts as a library supervisor.
Three days 4 pm-1am, 2 days off, Sunday & Friday 1pm -10pm. I think this fits my schedule better and would actually allow me to start taking grad school classes, but I wanted to know how other people felt about having vampiric schedules?

I used to to 8pm to 8am and hated it but the hours you speak of don't seem to bad.

I used to love the night shift, but then I AM one of those vampyres you speak of. I loved leaving work when it was dark and quiet.

It sounds like time to change, Jocelyn - but will this job help you move onwards and upwards? It's likely that after a while doing those hours, you'll crave a 9-5 job again, so make sure that taking this job makes progression still possible.

It won't really help me move upwards, just laterally, but it would be a wider variety of tasks and I would have the potential to take several classes to further my education, which is my bigger goal.

I worked an 11pm to 7am shift for six months. At no time did I feel I was fully awake. Nothing tasted right. Drinking beer at 7:30am should only be reserved for benders.

I also worked a 2pm to 8pm shift that was the greatest thing in the whole world.

i work two nights a week, it's fine, although i don't like getting home at 9:30... mostly i don't like taking the train home at that time of night on a weekday. not for safety reasons; it's just depressing.
