Ok, so it may be a little pointless. But fun, too, right? Also, I'd be interested to see some opinons from overseas on these questions.

Realists…
Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations Believe strong alliances are important to US interests Weigh the political costs of foreign action Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest
Historical realist: President Dwight D. EisenhowerModern realist: Secretary of State Colin Powell
this is pretty accurate wr2 my entire political outlook, not just wr2 foreign policy.

that's true and it's good to be tolerant and forgiving but it's also good to be real. morbius contributes bile to political threads 95% of the time. every once in a while he might simply drop a link or say something in a neutral tone but that's rare. his contributions add a level of unpleasantness that isn't necessary. not to mention his misogynistic language and inappropriate attacks @ another poster. the three days he was banned from the primary thread were a relief. imo it's time for a more permanent break.

Alfred posted this elsewhere, seems relevant
Voting for Johnson, as we’ve discussed, was a classic “lesser evil” vote in the sense that he means it. So was FDR, given the many compromises the New Deal had to make with the white supremacist faction of the party. So was Lincoln, an incrementalist on an issue of the utmost moral urgency. Major progressive reforms are almost always the result of lesser-evil voting and coalition-building, and are virtually never the result of dramatic flounces out of the coalition, as the same-sex marriage movement shows. Did movement conservatives take over the Republican Party by voting third party if they didn’t win? They did not. They try to get their candidates elected in the primaries, they won some and they lost some, but they kept pushing. It’s not complicated, but it works. As a theory of political change, it’s perfectly coherent.

i could have sworn you were tempbanned from the last primary thread a few months ago, but i can't find it. whatever, it doesn't matter. i'm delusional? you're a gaslighting fucking creep. i'm not going to waste my time searching for instances of your sexist language and attitude because it's "consistent" enough that i don't need to prove my point. your repeated attacks on mordy are nasty, antisemitic garbage posting of the worst degree. i don't think it's really up for debate tbh and i don't think anyone here would argue otherwise. yet here we are, you get to be a faux-sophisticated toxic shit and we all get to forgive you. how edifying.

― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Thursday, 16 June 2016 19:30 (nine years ago)
Dr. Morbius, you were definitely thread-banned from the primary thread about three weeks ago in response to a flurry of FPs one day. We later realized that some of those FPs initiated from a post on a different thread, but we left the thread-ban only for the primaries thread. It may have been coincidence that you didn't post to the that thread for a week or so after that? Seems unlikely.
