According to the Guardian yesterday, Channel 4 objected to the originally submitted version, not on content but on poor technical quality.
Lewthwaite on Newsnight: a nasty, nasty man. Claiming that the "genetic load" and general inbreeding of Muslims means that they have much higher levels of mental and physical disability than white people gives the lie to the claim that their anti-Muslim rhetoric is non-racial.

Are there really people out there thinking he is a repentant sinner?
The Quilliam Foundation sounds weird as fuck and is surely some kind of MI5 controlled asset.
― "Left-wing" poptimism: An infantile disorder (oppet), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)
i suspect this is a pure career move on Robinson and co's part but it's hard to be fully cynical about any gesture towards a) reducing inter-community tensions and b) further marginalizing the EDL
― Bap & Ounge (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:40 (twelve years ago)
I think he'll be able to inflame tensions further once he's achieved a level of think tank respectability tbh. The EDL will probably disappear. Wouldn't be surprised to see his new 'street movement' become a semi-official paramilitary wing of UKIP. Basically going full Golden Dawn.
― "Left-wing" poptimism: An infantile disorder (oppet), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:45 (twelve years ago)
Quilliam's been going for a while tho, right?
― Bap & Ounge (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:46 (twelve years ago)
He's facing criminal charges, iirc, so that might be a factor. Obviously it's a good thing that he is explicitly rejecting violence but I'm wary about the mainstreaming of someone with such a clear far-right agenda. The Quilliam Foundation's statement that he will help them fight Islamism and neo-nazism makes me a little uneasy. The EDL was never really about fighting "Islamism", whatever that might be, but immigration and Muslims in general. What is Robinson going to contribute here?
― Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)
i think Robinson's motivation here is almost wholly monetary, plus maybe the criminal thing as you say. the temptation to keep his head down and take that think tank money might well temper his future pronouncements.
― Bap & Ounge (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:51 (twelve years ago)
Quilliam Foundation not really known for fighting the good fight - http://www.islamophobia-watch.com/islamophobia-watch/2011/7/24/norway-how-the-experts-at-quilliam-helped-to-stoke-fears-of.html
― opie dead eyed piece of shit (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:56 (twelve years ago)
There might be an element of just paying him to shut up and disappear for a while. Idk, though. Nawaz and Husein, as dodgy as they are, are meant to have rejected their beliefs. Robinson gives the impression that he just thinks the tactics were ineffective.
What impact it'll have on the EDL will be interesting to see.
― Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:57 (twelve years ago)
https://twitter.com/Ed_Husain/status/387563547913646081 is notable in its stupidity but amount of similar liberal celebrations of an extremist being brought into the mainstream is disturbing.
― opie dead eyed piece of shit (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 8 October 2013 19:58 (twelve years ago)
be interesting to see what shape the EDL's funds are in. Robinson has been very conspicuously touting for big donations over the last 12 months.

Obviously a lot of his views already exist in the mainstream, they just look less acceptable when it's a load of thugs bellowing in the street.
Suspect the EDL as political entity is actually tiny.
