Frosty sleigh-bells.

The snow was piled deep, and the horses were having a diiicult time ploughing through!

The Fens had flooded and frozen, and you could skate clear from Norwich to Ely.

(that's "Tom's Midnight Garden", I take it, Mark?)

Outside the University Arms - an odd name, for Castleford has no university - the coach and horses were waiting.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Santa and the elves carefully loaded the presents onto the sledge. Santa said: "tsk tsk...I've really got to think about employing more new technology in my operations. My overheads are astronomical!" Wurtel the chief elf replied: "I but it wouldn't be the same!"
"I guess you are right! ho ho ho!! You know I always worry a little about getting all the prezzies delivered on time...and those Playstations are quite expensive!!!!!"
Meanwhile...

Mrs. Claus sat with hot cocoa and family dog near the fireplace, almost too close, hoping the heat would render unnoticeable the first prickly-hot twinges of menopause, thinking about how she was so much younger than her husband but not that young in the scheme of things, sighing, worrying, then comforting herself with the thought, "I can always get dermabrasion on these ashy fucking elbows of mine, after all, isn't that right Santa's Little Helper?" then smiling.

I was dissapointed and shocked at some of your answers! I though that I would be reading some great lines,(I did suggested ONE line each!) all abought your different Christmas experiences, especially from those of you who live in places where you have white Christmases! Maybe you will join me and we will try once more:

Snow, in large flakes were covering the entire world in a white blanket as Poppa chucked another log into the fireplace,

Gale Deslongchamps, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the glowing flames bloomed expressively while little Jimmy grew increasingly paranoid of how Santa would react, sliding down the blazing chimney......

He woke up with a new baby sister for a gift and considered it an outrageous imposition.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone came round to see baby Molly. Jimmy went outside to play.

In the yard, Jimmy threw snowballs at his robot 'friend' HJ- 2309x, "ouch" exclaimed the android, eventhough 'he' had no feelings.

james, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The android removed his head and sat on it, though the head protested vehemently about having a robot bum pushing down on it.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"ha ha...you look so silly" shouted little Jimmy, as he pelted the robot with more snowballs. Mrs. Evans happened to be walking past the yard "why are you so mean to all your friends Jimmy Saunders? Santa won't bring you any presents!".

james, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

[Never mind, Gale, even if you don't want to read the finished product to any children, perhaps it will provide popular bedtime entertainment in the Fay household as junior is tucked into bed to the soothing sounds of daddy's new masterwork "Dies Irae (de caelibus ignes fulminant ac undique cum multo ululato circumsonante viscera sanguine ferroque erumpunt)"...]

Rebecca, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"I don't want any presents" said Jimmy, "afterall I possess the greatest gift of all, SOUL ENGULFING MALICE....aha ahahahaha muhahahahahhahaha".

Ronan, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mrs. Evans turns slightly pale, mutters "oh dear", and clutches her Bible tight as Jimmy gathers up a particularly vicious looking ice- projectile....

Honda, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Oh my!" said a startled Mrs Evans. Jimmy went back to harassing the robot, when suddenly a Christmas Elf appeared..."Jimmy? Jimmy Suanders? Santa sent me..."

james, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and..er.. Jimmy changes the story to present-tense

Honda, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

[Gale, I hope you are happier with this story...I think it's quite cool at the mo! :)...]

james, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Santa sent me to tell you he will be played by Martin Lawrence in a hilarious Xmas flick about a wise cracking cop forced to take over the role of Santa Claus"

Ronan, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank you all, your efforts were quite entertaining! Mom, (the novelist) also enjoyed reading your lines. Maybe someone could come up with some other topic that we could all participate in, a fine pass time! Bye for now. Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

four years pass...
Mrs. Evans was shocked by what Jimmy had suggested....
