Aged 97. Seemed like one of the nice guys, but I admittedly know very little of him outside of his films.

fantastic in 'in which we serve'.

not so in 'who's that girl'.

I thought when he renewed his wedding vows a few years back that it was one of the sweetest things I'd ever seen. His wife was so frail and old and confused, and he had nothing but pure love in his eyes when he looked at her. Melted my heart, so it did. I could almost forgive him for spawning someone who spawned that tube from Kula Shaker.

Seriously one of my favourites.

Great Expectations
Hobson's Choice
Scott of the Antartic
Ice Cold...of course

i love these films

Always seemed to be a really kind and gallant man - loyal to those around him.
He was a wonderful actor. And he dressed beautifully, too.

RIP.

too bad about Kula Shaker

Classic, sad there isn't more love shown for him here. Maybe staying in the UK stopped him having a higher profile.

Anyway classic for this story if nothing else Sir John Mills reminisced on the days when censorship meant doing up two more buttons" in a sex scene. He recalled his faux pas of swearing on stage at the Theatre Royal, Brighton and the reaction of the audience: one theatregoer staged a walk-out, muttering: "It’s disgusting. I paid good money to see those fuckers."

Tragic, Hobsons Choice is my favourite movie.

I saw him on Broadway in the late '80s, playing Alfred Doolittle in "Pygmalion" ... opposite Peter O'Toole and Amanda Plummer!

He's fine in "Great Expectations" tho he was way too old for even Old Pip.

Ooh, I saw that as well (and you've forgotten that Dora Bryan was also in that).

suzy (suzy), Monday, 25 April 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I've forgotten Dora Bryan.
