Anybody else see or take part in the Beeb's new Lottery Quiz? I love the fact that you can play at home for proper money. Last year, when this show ran as a separate entity, we got within one place of the TV final. Ouch. Tonight, me and Mrs Vague scored 23 out of 24. Will we get a call-back tomorrow? Will we get to make nervous sweaty fools of ourselves on Saturday night TV? This show's more thrilling to play than Bingo. And we really like Bingo.

Failin Huxley (noodle vague), Saturday, 23 April 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

OH MY GOD!!!!! After giving up all hope of making next week's final, we get a phone call this evening. Mr and Mrs Noodle Vague will be taking part, live on BBC1 at 7.45pm, Saturday 1 May, competing for a grand prize of £50,000. The phrase "freaking the feck out" just about sums it up.

Failin Huxley (noodle vague), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

well done! but watch out for that julian clary- i saw the show on saturday and i don't think his rudeness to the guests is schtick, he seems genuinely angry towards them.
*reading card* "i see you have a funny story about a cat and some...toilet paper? actually i'm not interested at all" *walks away*

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm down with that, funny anecdotes on game shows are always bollocks anyway, aren't they?

Failin Huxley (noodle vague), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

everyone else got to tell their funny anecdote tho so i feel bad for the cat/toiletpaper man. he missed his chance to shine.

do you have an anecdote in mind for your appearance?

Slumpman (Slump Man), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

Most of my anecdotes involve me being in a state of intoxication of some kind. We may have to lie.

Failin Huxley (noodle vague), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Holy Mother of Fuck. 23 thousand pounds later, we're home again and everything is grate. Links and post-match analysis to follow. Thanks everybody who said nice stuff.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

Yay! The ILX World FAP can finally happen!

(More seriously, congrats to Noodle and Mrs. Noodle. Hope all the mysterious relatives who hated you and now want money go away quickly.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

Slumpman (Slump Man), Monday, 2 May 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Well done you! What are you going to do with the cash?

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Monday, 2 May 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, I watched that and didn't realise I "knew" the people involved. Well done you. We were watching it and me and the mister were all "oh, this is dead easy, we should enter for this, we'd totally win money". Inspired by you, maybe we will!

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

OMG AWESOME

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Thanks guys. To be honest, lots of that money will go towards me and Nom no longer being in debt, but that's a great feeling to have, and a consequent rise in monthly income. Other than that, we don't have any grandiose dreams: today I got my first mp3 player, and the new Van der Graaf Generator and Antony and the Johnsons albums. N got some sunglasses. We'll spend some on the kids and friends and family, have a bit of a party in our local, and hopefully visit some nice places. I'm thinking about taking a part-time degree. That's it really.

We've seen a tape now. I'm amused at how Black Country I still sound, having left there nearly 18 years ago. I'm glad I didn't make too much of an arse of meself, Nom was as lovely as she is in reality, and we had a great time, considering we were absolutely terrified. There'll be a picture up on the BBC in a day or so and I'll stick a link up.

And we saw messrs Hansen, Lawrenson and Lineker. Which was nice.

Failin Huxley (noodle vague), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

five years pass...

OK so I'm gonna be competing in the next series of Only Connect apparently. Gulp.

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 16:59 (fifteen years ago)

I love Only Connect and have wasted many hours on the online version of the connect wall: http://www.bbc.co.uk/onlyconnect/quiz/

nate woolls, Monday, 21 February 2011 17:03 (fifteen years ago)

^ love it, but the scoring is fucked, you only get points for guessing connections if you've found all four.

ledge, Monday, 21 February 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

an old friend turned up on the last series and I don't think he said a word thru the whole ep, tho we weren't sure whether he was pished or not tbh

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

xp yeah I've noticed they've fucked the online walls up, I'm sure you used to be able to guess even if you didn't get all the groups

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

most painfully middle class show on tv by some distance, btw

ledge, Monday, 21 February 2011 17:06 (fifteen years ago)

also good luck!

ledge, Monday, 21 February 2011 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

it tries to play the up-itselfness as self-parody but really it's just up itself. man I hope this gets de-Googlified

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

Achillean Heel (darraghmac), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

yeah so anyway Victoria Coren (W totally S btw) might play it for "lulz" but the researchers seem to be very "this are serious game show for serious peoples"

recording first round and quarter final if applicable March 20th, semi the next day if applicable again.

You're supposed to find a connecting interest for your team name, hurt ourselves laughing on the way to the interview by proposing that we had all played violins as children and should offer to be "The Kiddy Fiddlers".

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

Cool. i sort of know vc a little bit if you need an 'in', but you might struggle to work up 'i hang out on an internet forum with a good friend of your bff' into a non-strange conversation.

portrait of velleity (woof), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

that was an xp. did not mean 'in' in WS-enabling sense.

she kinda seems like an unpleasant person irl tho

fuck you jan stepek you kurwa (nakhchivan), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

thanks for the offer woof! but i agree there is no topic of IRL conversation that shd start with "I was hanging out on ILX when"

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

wheee good work. i am sad and compete with a friend at this and university challenge. well i compete at university challenge, but she is so good at the missing letters round of only connect that i don't stand a chance. like if she were on the show unless there's a tremendous delay on buzzer time i'm pretty sure she'd answer every one, or thereabouts. it's not fair. :(

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:40 (fifteen years ago)

the bad thing about SERIOUS GAME SHOWS FOR SERIOUS PEOPLES is that they always have terrible non-prizes (unlike your previous successes, NV!). it's the one thing that stands between me and trying to get to a place where i can make a fool of myself on nationwide tv.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

that's why I wouldn't have entered off my own bat, bugger putting yrself thru the interview/anecdote/cheesy grin process for no financial reward. but my friend wanted to do this and hey i think it shd be big laughs

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

also BBC4 is nationwide TV in the sense that its tiny audience is spread far apart

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 17:55 (fifteen years ago)

she kinda seems like an unpleasant person irl tho

She divides opinion.

w not s fwiw.

Some friends were on a cough cough music industry-related team on her show a few months back and looked like winning but crapped out in the last bit.

My VC scuttlebutt is that she's pretty nice but her bro is a tool.

anna sui generis (suzy), Monday, 21 February 2011 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

yeah from limited interactions i don't think me & her are natural pals, but she's ok.

portrait of velleity (woof), Monday, 21 February 2011 19:35 (fifteen years ago)

in my limited gameshow experience hosts don't really wanna be bezzy mates with any contestants and who can blame them?

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)

not that Julian C. was anything other than charming

Nulty By Nature (Noodle Vague), Monday, 21 February 2011 19:38 (fifteen years ago)

Oh wow, you're incredibly brave. The only bit of OC I'm any good at is the missing letters round. Find it much harder than University Challenge, even.

Stories from Hull City, Stories from Hull FC (Noodle Vague), Monday, 12 September 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

It was a very solid performance - losing out for not knowing a McTwist is a snowboarding move is a reasonable way to go.

William Bloody Swygart, Monday, 12 September 2011 20:14 (fourteen years ago)

Was that dude a b3tan or something?

Anyway, well done, I thought your lot were good but yr opponents were FIERCE.

(just halfway through just now)
