So for us characters in the US...what the hell? Explain, please.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 8 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Discussion programme on BBC Radio 4, Ned.

I avoid that kind of shit (isn't Peter Hitchens on it?) by listening to Five Live, which RoXoR.

Even Talk Sport is preferable.

Little more explanation for passing sceptics & kiwis: radio show where 4 panelists - couple of hacks, maybe some religious type, maybe a prominent lawyer - quiz experts on a key issue facing the nation. Neutral sounding format belies the fact that the regular panel consists of two deranged right wingers, one medium right winger or person-w/god on their side, and a very token lib/lefty. Plus the panel's schtick is to insult the experts, on the grounds that somebody who has been treating heroin addicts for thirty years can't possibly have more to say on the subject than some old hag from the Daily Telegraph. Almost impossible to listen for more than three minutes before chucking radio through the window (quite dangerous as I live on the 6th floor).

What's wrong with hearing some viewpoints differing from one's own once in a while?

dave q, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They're wrong.

It's great when David Starkey's on it, especially when he's in one of his excitable moods.

Mr Q: Am almost as likely to fling radio out the window for something said by Michael Mansfield QC as Daley. Starkey, at least, is entertaining. But the level of debate is always piss poor, and I can't stomach weepy Michael Buerk (or however he spells his name) either.

I dunno, Mark's description of the show sounds like pure comedy.

I love the moral maze and htink its one of the best shows on the radio, although I don't hear it often enough
