has anyone tried mashed plantains? how do they compare to other mashes (potatoes, turnips, etc)?

I saw a cooking show where they did an Indian plantain chip recipie - v thinly sliced pieces fried in oil that had been tinted with spices and things. Looked nice. Was served with a curry and shredded coconut.
