Hopefully, this won't be a dud on the level of that other filmic adaptation of a thing I like.

Don't forget that there's an entire board on ILXor all about AF:

http://ilx.p3r.net/newquestions.php?board=75

It just sorta quietly plugs along and notes things. The creator's apparently popped in from time to time to say a few things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 24 April 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

oh goody. nu metal and charlize theron are my favourite things in the world

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 24 April 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, I never noticed that board before!

Ian Riese-Moraine has a grenade, that pineapple's not just a toy! (Eastern Mantr, Sunday, 24 April 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

I like it, therefore it couldn't possibly be nu-metal.

Organized Crime (Leee), Monday, 25 April 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

It's a shame that because of her similar role in the Matrix films that Carrie-Anne Moss couldn't play the role. She looks and talks almost exactly like the cartoon version.

Charlize Theron seems too girly and cute.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 25 April 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

are they going to somehow induce anorexia to get her to look the part? all of the frightening weirdos who liked the cartoon will be disappointed if her waist isn't like 13 inches around, right?

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

I honestly can't really imagine hardly any way in which this film could turn out not total ass. This should've been a full-length big budget ANIMATED FEATURE.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

Charlize Theron????

Allyzay do not obtain to make download of yours MP3 (allyzay), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

They use CGI to make her look like Angelina Jolie.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 25 April 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

She looks better than Angelina Jolie, with or without CGI.

Ian Riese-Moraine has a grenade, that pineapple's not just a toy! (Eastern Mantr, Monday, 25 April 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Then again, most anyone would look better than Angelina Jolie. I find her to be somewhat trashy.

That's the appeal!

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 25 April 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

yeah, but c'mon, Jolie looks like she could suck a dick, right? right? That's her appeal, right?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 25 April 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Yep

Jimmy Mod Knows You Eat Your Own Farts (ModJ), Monday, 25 April 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Now I feel ashamed.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 25 April 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

Meanwhile, Peter Chung what created the whole thing sez over on the AF board that they're finishing up a remastered/redone AF DVD box set, for those who care about such things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
This movie was very pretty.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Pirated version I was watching with friends stopped working 40 minutes in. None of us were upset.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

We had very low expectations and found it pretty rewarding as a result, I think. It makes me want to visit East Berlin.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

I remember it being very colourful. That and thinking that Trevor was a ridiculous name for a supervillain.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Trevor wasn't a villain at all, he was one of the good guys.

Though it is a terrible name.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

Well you did only see the first 40 minutes.
Plot was approximately 50% as convoluted as a Final Fantasy game.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

Trevor Goodchild and Aeon Flux are the names from the original series, though. That's nobody's fault but Chung's. who also designed Tommy Pickles, btw.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

Part of me feels like I should be upset about receiving spoilers for this movie.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

(xpost) I will take your word for it as I obviously didn't pay that much attention. I'm not going to try watching it again!

Is FF really that bad? Hmmm I should check out that ILG thread.

pretty much since 7, yeah

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

Not really much of a spoiler.

OOH this thread reminds me to add it to netflix.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Syriana instead of this. I don't regret the decision, even though I haven't seen Aeon Flux; the 10-12 original-on-VHS episodes I have are a thing of beauty, and I don't wanna sully how I feel about them by watching C. Theron pretending to be her.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

AF at least has a payoff. A lot of the dialogue in Syriana is just as stilted and inexplicable and then they don't even give you the big explosion at the end, just fade-to-white.

Syriana is definitely the film that Aeon Flux needs to be compared to, though. Here I was thinking "Logan's Run, Blade Runner, Johnny Mnemonic" - such a boring, rote existence I lead!

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Well no, I mean there is a big explosion at the end of Syriana, in fairness you're just making that up that there isn't one.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

I wasn't claiming that they're anything alike - esp. since I haven't seen A. flux the movie (and I can't recall the details in the AF movie reviews I read). Just that they were out at the same time, and my cousin and I were gonna go see AF and at the last minute I was all "let's go so syriana instead" and he was all "okay."

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

I would compare "Aeon Flux" to "Sense And Sensibility" or "The English Patient".

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Syriana shows you the cruise missile hit but they DON'T show you the oil pipeline being destroyed by the islamist crazy-pantses on the boat with the SAM payload strapped to the bow. That was bullshit. In AF you get a real kablam, satisfaction.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

ok I will not have you telling me that a movie where George Clooney gets blown up by a missle is not a movie with a giant explosion in it. You didn't say "many explosions," of which Aeon Flux is lacking in as well I might very well say.
