okay, so even ESPN says we had the best overall draft in THE LEAGUE! that coupled with our most aggressive free agency season in history, seems to be aligning the football stars in favor of a Vikings superbowl win!

oh yeah, and don't question Williamson over Mike Williams...remember we took Kevin Williams over Suggs and Duante Culpepper over Kearse and look how those turned out! SUBVERTING THE DOMINANT PARADIGM=JUST DOING OUR JOB, M'AM!

also: check our sleepers in the draft: Dustin Fox* (4.4 40 42 inch vertical leap) and Fason at running back....hOttt to def!

Erasmus James will end Farve's career, no shit! Wisconsin turncoats roool!

*real life hometown: Canton Ohio! (no shit can you say "destiny"?)

Remember the seventies.

THE VIKES OF TODAY SHOULD DEFEND THEMSELVES AGAINST THE SEVENTIES!!!

drafts don't mean shit.

vikes will stink, per the usual.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

drafts don't mean shit.

uh...what? that makes no sense

vikes will stink, per the usual.

NOT!

Xpost to Phil-two...the bears had a nice draft...didn't want to see cedric benson go to a division rival...they did well...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

Terrell also says ridiculous amounts of self-aggrandizing bullshit.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Lions now have three top-10 receivers although, as Yanc3y said, hopefully one of them can play QB to.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

i hope the lions get more nationally televised games. joey harrington is so hot. but i liked him better in the cute oregon outfits better.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

matt, pls do statistical analysis of draftee success vs. washout rate. or, see also: ryan leaf.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

dallas cowboys. how they built their dynasty on the draft picks they plundered from minnesota.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

the bears have had nothing but 1st round busts. rashaan salaam, curtin enis, cade mcnown, david terrell, alonzo spellman, marc colombo, marcus spears. those are the ones that i can think of at the top of my head. i guess urlacher was their only good 1st round pick in the last 15 years? maybe walt harris was ok, but hes not on the team anymore.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Go Raiders.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

The Vikings better get a decent kicker, as you will remember what happened the last time they seemed "unbeatable".

earlnash, Monday, 25 April 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

different sport but:

http://www.nba.com/theater/images/gallery/ellsion_draft.jpg

drafts are useless at predicting future performance

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

They had an awesome kicker then! He missed one field goal all season! Granted, that missed field goal ended their season, but still!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

x-post There must be a Grammatica face-down in their own vomit somewhere that they can sign up.

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

is gary andersen still alive?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

matt, pls do statistical analysis of draftee success vs. washout rate. or, see also: ryan leaf.

well, yeah duh, sure there are always a good deal of big flameout, but to say that it's not IMPORTANT is not true...it's still the main way you make your team better from year to year....also, the big name QB flameout rate is usually higher than it is at other positions...

The Vikings better get a decent kicker, as you will remember what happened the last time they seemed "unbeatable".

Yeah, it's too bad that Nugent dude got taken before we had a chance to grab him...I really had a crush on him! The kicker situation is going to continue to haunt us...

Lions now have three top-10 receivers although, as Yanc3y said, hopefully one of them can play QB to.

Our local sports talk guru's are saying that's because there are some serious questin marks about Charlie Rogers, both personally and collorbone-wise...(same break at the same place twice in a row)....Still, Williams is a very solid blue chipper and I was in favor of the Vikes getting him instead of Troy Williamson...here's to hoping the purple Brain Wizards know something everyone else doesn't....they like to be contrary on draft day.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

I think Gary Anderson was kicking for the Titans last year, proving old kickers never retire. Jan Stenerud is still waiting for KC to give him a call.

earlnash, Monday, 25 April 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

free agent acquisition arguably more important.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

free agents u gotta pay a ton of money to. 3rd round picks, not so much.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

no but free agents are proven quantities, 3rd rounders not so much.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

"free agents u gotta pay a ton of money to."

There are also people that move on to be able to get playing time as they are behind a higher paid/profile starter. The best recent example of such a player would be Priest Holmes.

Contracts in the NFL are so weird, sometimes players that are signing free agent contracts take a pay cut, as they got cut by their team as not to have to pay some balloon year coming up in their past deal.

earlnash, Monday, 25 April 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

free agent acquisition arguably more important.

true that's why the VIKES KICKED ASs duRING FREE AGENCY TOO! woot!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

no but free agents are proven quantities, 3rd rounders not so much.

but draft day is so much fun. maybe even more fun than winning

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 25 April 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Can't wait to see if the defense plays as good as it looks.

Kevin and Fat Pat Williams in the middle, with Erasmus and Big Kenichi off the edges = easily the best D-line we've seen since the glory (slight return) days of Millard, Doleman, Hank Thomas and Al 'Krazee-Eyez' Noga. Plus!: 2 cornerbacks who actually belong in the league.

I'll miss the A.F.R.O.S.'s, but at least they went out with a bang at Lambeau. I don't think Daunte will miss a beat.

neurothèque, Monday, 25 April 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

is gary andersen still alive?

haha gary anderson came to my high school back when he played for the steelers. and i've been out of high school a long time

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 25 April 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

You've got to be pretty batshit insane to trade maybe the best wide receiver in the game over 'team chemistry.' I suspect the Vikings will regret that at some point.

I was bummed about the Moss trade...but I'm a little more positive now after the draft....yeah I didn't like the chemistry thing, but I've heard there were also some questions about his long-term durability....he's been really hurting the last two years.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 25 April 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Matt dude, Lions will be hosting the Super Bowl this year! We had a better off-season than the Vikes. Kenoy Kennedy to shore up the secondary, Marcus Pollard at TE, Jeff Garcia as backup/insurance-policy, Kevin Johnson at 4th wideout. plus Boss Bailey and Charles Rogers coming back from season-long injuries is like two extra signings right there. Add to that a draft of ultimate stud WR Mike Williams to go along with ultimate stud Roy Williams and this offense will strike fear into the NFC Norris. I think your boy Antoine Winfield will be having many a sleepless night in the months to come...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

harrington has to get it done this year, no excuses

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

if he doesn't, garcia sure won't help!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

what do you suppose mel kiper jr is doing right now?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

going in for another face-lift.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Carefully taking off his coif-helmet and putting it in cold storage.

Curious George (1/6 Scale Model) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't completely get why so many people are down on Joey Harrington. While he has not yet blown out into a Pro Bowl QB and he had a couple of really terrible games, I would say he is much better than the other options. The stat that I find encouraging is that he didn't really throw that many interceptions.

It seems to me the big reason the Lions had that losing streak was the fact that offense got really banged up and had no running game, once Kevin Jones got healthy, they started playing better.

Either way, I will believe a NFC North (AKA Central) team winning the Superbowl when it happens. That division is all about making the playoffs at 9-7. The Bears could just as well win the North this year as any of the other three teams.

Mel Kiper Jr. must buy grecian formula by the barrel, that damn thing on his head is a bulletproof dome.
