Well, what should I get? I've only get a CD at the mo, and despite not seeing/hearing much of him, I'm loving it at the mo.

Apparently he's gone downhill in recent years, so direct me to good DVDs/CDs/ETCs

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 28 April 2005 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

he had a period of over-exposure a few years back which ruined him for me. i was quite a fan before that.

search: his early appearances on have i got news for you. although i don't know if it's available on dvd or anything. his style seemed so fresh then. how times have changed.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 28 April 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

He was in my dream last night, just came up to me and introduced himself. Quite polite really.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 28 April 2005 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Search - all the earlier DVDs especially Glorious. Destroy the Circle tour though. Bought-the-t-shirt, Izzard-by-numbers, rushed for the Christmas market, US gig that falls completely falt. The only redeeming quality is the extra where he does a whole gig in French.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 28 April 2005 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

dog latin OTM.

I enjoyed his book 'Dress To Kill' too.

Search: Glorious and Dressed to Kill....his finest hours, by my count. Also...

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 28 April 2005 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

N/A NOOOOOOOOOOO!

That was Graham Norton, who is definitely not Eddie Izzard.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 April 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, duh, I had a feeling that wasn't right. But I plowed on ahead anyways. But everyone should watch Father Ted anyhow.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it coincidental that his schtick got a bit rubbish around the time he learnt to dress a little better? He was great when he was wearing terrible shiny suits and high heels and eyeshadow that didn't flatter him at all.

Huh. He was only any good when he still wore "men's" clothes and just painted his nails and wore earrings.

That's right. I'm a comedy rockist.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

rockist = hating on transvestism?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

prioritisation of traditional (rock!) values = rockism.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 28 April 2005 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"Tea and cake or death, tea and cake or death... hello, would you like tea and cake or death? Thank you for flying Church of England airlines."

Still my favorite thing Eddie Izzard's ever said.

Goodbye Indian Summer (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 29 April 2005 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

rockist = hating on transvestism?

Also with elements of that favourite "my favourite band was better before you heard of them".

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not rockist to impose limit on immigration

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 April 2005 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved his Time Team appearance - "I've found a dinosaur's foot, Tony!"

I miss The Riches.

Size-zero-brigade-embrace-token-chubby-chops (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

me too! that season ended and i thought it was coming back and i waited and waited and then i found out it was canceled :-\ granted it had gotten so incredibly ridiculous it would have been hard to sustain much longer, but :-\ all the same.

And I find myself shouting... BHOOT!!! BHOOT!!! (tehresa), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 16:38 (sixteen years ago)

I heard a rumor at one point about it being wrapped up with a movie, but doesn't seem likely to happen. I just really liked the performances, even Minnie Driver. I enjoyed seeing the neighbor lady on Hung.

Size-zero-brigade-embrace-token-chubby-chops (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

yeah The Riches started out promisingly but just went down such an increasingly moronic path with the plot and did season-end cliffhangers so badly that i was kinda relieved when it got cancelled. Hung has the same creator (hence having some of the same actors), so i'm a little anxious about it going down the same road.

Alex, Lord Autogoon (some dude), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 17:17 (sixteen years ago)

four weeks pass...

Just got back from seeing him at a somewhat unannounced club gig. If anything, all those marathons has given him amazing stamina - two hour+ set of all new material.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 07:04 (sixteen years ago)

i miss the ri¢hes

tehresa, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 07:18 (sixteen years ago)

I miss seeing him in somewhere other than big venues, so i am jealous of elvis.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 07:30 (sixteen years ago)

Oh man. I love this man so much. For me nothing will ever quite match Dressed to Kill which I know almost from memory but gah - <3 him so.

*:--☆--:*:--☆:*:--☆--:*:--☆--: (ENBB), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 11:17 (sixteen years ago)

I loved Dressed To Kill when it came out. I had a videotape that someone had taped off of the HBO special. A few years later, I watched it at a friend's house on DVD and HOLY SHIT IT WAS LONG AND BORING. I guess the HBO special had been edited down to an hour or so, but DVD included the entire night's performance?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 11:25 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know - I've seen the whole thing many many times and I don't find it long and boring at all!

*:--☆--:*:--☆:*:--☆--:*:--☆--: (ENBB), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 11:29 (sixteen years ago)

Glorious was his peak for me. He got a bit smug after that.

five months pass...

This fucking guy.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Monday, 22 March 2010 16:38 (sixteen years ago)

And now he's dead.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 22 March 2010 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

On 27 July 2009, Izzard began a seven-week marathon run through the UK to raise money for Sport Relief, carrying a flag for each country in which he ran, from London to Cardiff to Belfast to Edinburgh and back to London. Eddie Iz Running is a document of his road running marathon, in which he ran 43 marathons in 51 days. He completed the run on 15 September 2009 and won the special award at BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009 for his achievements

£1.6m raised so far.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Monday, 22 March 2010 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

This was on last night.

The Northern Ireland part of the marathon(s) got precisely 12 seconds of coverage.

Mark G, Monday, 22 March 2010 16:42 (sixteen years ago)

8 seconds was actually on the ferry iirc.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Monday, 22 March 2010 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

Amazing thing is that he doesn't look to any thinner or in better shape for it.

FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT! (milo z), Monday, 22 March 2010 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

Eh, I saw this a couple of weeks ago on BBC3 and there was about 5-10 minutes in NI, as he lived there for a time in the late 60s.

The Man With the Magic Eardrums (Billy Dods), Monday, 22 March 2010 18:17 (sixteen years ago)

don't feel like the last few posts are corroborating a deserved this fucking guy attitude

we just have to get over it that's science (schlump), Monday, 22 March 2010 18:29 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, last night's show was a condensed version of a longer series, I think? I watched the NI one as well, there was a decent bit of coverage of him standing in the street with some old dears giving it the old "oh, I remember you when you were a wee boy" thing.

The idea of running 43 marathons is utterly insane, so massive props to him. Shame it didn't get as much publicity as Christine Bleakley waterskiing badly across the Channel (also insane, btw, so well done her as well).

ailsa, Monday, 22 March 2010 18:31 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, but, you know, legs.
