Just now i was watching the simpsons episode where Otto loses his job and house and moves in with the simpsons, and i was thinking, "I am relishing the deftness with which this simpsons episode is referencing the first episode of happy days when the fonz moved in".

seconds later, Homer says, of Otto, "This isn't Happy Days and he is *not Fonzie."

a few years back, while studying for my a levels and listening to Simon 'flares' Barnet's classic rock radio show on GLR, i successfully predicted he would play Bad Company's 'Can't Get Enough Of Your Love' after the news. i could even hear the intro, the yell the riff the drums. and guess what. HE DID!

are you sometimes plagued by bizarre coincidences that make you ponder the possibility of a higher consciousness? does the whimsy of my question redeem it from its destiny as WORST THREAD EVER?

stevie (stevie), Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

"Heeeeey, Mr. S!"

Beautiful stuff. As is the Gear! quote from Repo.

YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE FUN AND ENTERTAINING:

...a Gear/Stevie FAP the next time the latter is in LA.

stevie (stevie), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Also, Stevie, had you not seen that Simpsons episode before? That's a legendary fave of mine since first broadcast -- I taped it for the Spinal Tap appearance but the rest of the episode was the really funny part!

"I HAD MUSTARD?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 April 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

make you ponder the possibility of a higher consciousness

a better explaination imo: patterns that you can get to get around/more or less infra consciously/ like never hitting red lights and stuff/ no need to get supernatural about it

ROFFLE

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

i've got one:

i was listening to a MURS album in college where, on the album, there is a bernie mac sample from house party 3. the tv was on mute at the same time the music on and i was flipping through channels. my roommate hears the sample and says "hey, i know where that sample is from, house party 3!"

i flip to the next channel, and house party 3 is ON THE TELEVISION. AND IT'S THE EXACT SCENE WITH THE SAMPLE.

we freaked out.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

how is that a coincidence? your roommate obviously "hijacked" your TV signal and played a pre-cued videotape!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

you should have seen us screaming like little girls!

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

this from last night:

i was watching Mulholland Drive for about the 10th time tonight: it still creeps me out no matter how many times i've seen it.

anyway... i suppose we all know the Silencio scene? that one slays me every time, Rebekah del Rio singing a spanish version of crying - the scene makes so much impact partly because it goes on for about 3 times as long as you think it should.

so the film finishes, over the credits plays this sort of warped drone thing and then something i hadn't noticed before - there's an english version of "crying" playing over the drone that gets louder and louder.... EXCEPT IT'S NOT i realise there's someone outide my flat singing "crying" - yep, some drunk crazy guy is walking along Maryhill road at 3am belting out Roy Orbison songs. I shout Sam thru (he's gone to the loo in the meantime) cos i think i'm having an auditory hallucination or something and we're both like WTF?!

i nearly shat it.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

one time i was walking out a restaurant and i had a sudden tought: "suspicious minds" by elvis presley will be on the radio. i hadn't heard the song in a long time and i never listened to the radio anyway. then my dad turned on the radio and the song was "suspicious minds".

latebloomer: But when the monkey die, people gonna cry. (latebloomer), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

ok here's a good one that just happened to me.

i was just thinking "hmm, i could use some pizza."
then i went to the food court and bought some food and... it was a slice of pizza!

weird, huh?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 29 April 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 29 April 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)
