Now that I have my new Mac, I need to figure out what to do with my old PC. Should I donate it somewhere? Smash it? Shoot it out of a cannon? What do I do?

Where do I donate it?

where i live there is a little crew of people who collect old computers, rebuild them/use the parts to rebuild other pcs and donate them to poor kiddies. that's what i'd do with it if i were you and there was a similar thing going on in your area kirsten. can't remember where i found out about them, they were mainly uni students though so maybe at uni... maybe you could ask at your local computer shop?

Okay, thanks! I'd feel bad just throwing it away, because it still works and everything. I'll check around.

the other means i've used of disposing of a slightly dodge computer that still worked a bit, was to put an ad in the local free advertising paper saying "computer for free to good home", someone came and picked it up.

that's kinda better from an environmental point of view than just chucking it in the bin too.

Yeah, definitely. I've just been sitting here staring at this old computer like a poor dead pet.

donate!!! yay!

but yeah, one thing, you wanna make sure you do a scramble of the hard drive first. just deleting won't work. most computer recycle charities will do this for you for cheap/free... although, they may just expose it to a large magnet essentially destroying it forever... but just in case you'd rather do it yourself and not ruin the hard drive, check out:
