New billboards advertising a Spanish-language newscast on KRCA-TV Channel 62 were intended as an attention-grabber for its core audience, but instead have struck a nerve with activists seeking to curb illegal immigration.

The billboards show two cable newscasters sitting in front of the downtown skyline, with "Los Angeles, CA" printed above. The "CA" is crossed out, and "Mexico" is stamped alongside in bright red letters. Underneath are the Spanish words, "Tu ciudad. Tu equipo." — Your city. Your team.

I was going to make a joke about being alright with illegal immigrants coming from Mexico because their women are well-endowed. Is it too late?

this is silly on the surface (get one sense of humor) and silly at its core--growing up in the southwest I knew plenty of hispanic Americans whose land ownership/local family history could be traced back to pre-territorial days.

get this - there's this part of new york called, are you ready, 'little italy'. and another part called 'chinatown'. i hear there are other 'chinatown's too. OMG WE'RE LOSING EVERYTHING!

I think that's fucking rad. The real name of our state is "Alta California" to distinguish it from Baja - at least until the 1830's or whatnot. I'm fucking sick to death of "immigration activists" anyway, borders are arbitrary geographical myths, porous as all getout.

that's awesome. I've always been for giving it back to the motherland.

Tempest in a teapot. LA along with Miami is amongst the world's largest producers of Spanish language media.

That's some charming, small minded, mean-spirited bullshit. Pendejos

People getting worked up over this billboard (of which there are all of, like, 60 in the LA area) have seriously got to find a hobby.
