Oh yeahhhhhhhh...

This is ever so good news for those of us here in the states who don't get BBC America. Though, probably bad news for those who don't get either BBCA or HBO. You poor bastards.

Ah, good. I was just thinking the other day that HBO would be nuts not to make a grab for Gervais and Merchant.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I have heard of this 'BitTorrent'

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Joked Gervais in a statement, "It's an honor to be on the same channel that gave us 'The Sopranos,' and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse."

Huk-L, Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a Nathan Barley for 2005!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean, the show could somehow turn out to be rubbish but at least we won't have to search all over creation to get a glimpse.

but with patrick stewart and ben stiller (accelerating drop in funny quotient notwithstanding) on his side it's bound to yield at least interesting results.

jp (Plastic Gas Booby Trap), Thursday, 28 April 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm excited.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

the whole "we're going to have lots of celebrity cameos" aspect makes me think this has shark-jumping potential.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i can see it being too close to "curb your enthusiasm" for comfort.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, celebrities are shit.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck a celebrity.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Always dating Tom Cruise.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It's either this or air travel

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i am really tired of shows that give celebrities opportunity to good-naturedly lampoon themselves, or simply show up and function as icons. nick's apparent sarcasm (??) aside, i really do get tired of celebrities.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like those question marks.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

But I know what you mean. It's a plague with a number of HBO shows, and it allows the celebrity to acknowledge their image, their perceived shortcomings, but without actually doing anything about it. They are easy "jokes" based on cultural references/insider knowledge that aren't usually jokes at all once you think about them.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

There are way too many shows on HBO about show business, this is true. Even Six Feet Under and The Sopranos have gone down this road in the past.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Entourage is the bottom of the barrel. Oh my God that show is so painful to watch. It's even more excruciating than Unscripted, which is kinda mind-boggling, really.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

But in fairness to Gervais and Merchant, this subject matter is very ripe for the comedy that they specialize in.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I will probably end up...laughing.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 28 April 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Entourage is worth the half hour just to watch Kevin Dillon's facial expressions. Johnny Drama 4evah!

That show's not coming back, though is it? (entourage, I mean).

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Entourage. It's so so so bad. It was on every minute I was in American, I swear.

I have a bad feeling about this show.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't actually in an American, I've just had one too many beers.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Entourage is coming back, at least for a second season. They renewed it before they were even halfway through the first season.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I will probably end up...laughing

= the title of your autobiography?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 28 April 2005 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

(I haven't seen the Office Christmas Special yet so maybe I've missed something that would preclude this, but) They should do a series where Gareth comes to America. I love Gareth.

Huk-L, Friday, 29 April 2005 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus, Huk. Drop everything and watch the Office x-mas special right now. Best 90 minutes in TV history. And I don't mean that hyperbolically.

I vastly prefer "Entourage" to "Unscripted." The latter takes itself SO seriously, whereas the existence of the former show is a key part of the joke - it's a bunch of young, not-very-talented kids who party with the d-list and waste money, starring in a show about young, not-very-talented kids who party with the d-list and waste money, and are self-aware about that fact. I think it's pretty fun, actually. And Piven's always good for a handful of laughs.

how the hell could anything be "too close" to curb your enthusiasm for comfort?!

corey c (shock of daylight), Saturday, 30 April 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

Cut to 'Fat Actress'

Kirstie Alley, Sunday, 1 May 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

"Entourage" is "Sex In The City" for guys

W i l l (common_person), Sunday, 1 May 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

eight months pass...
The new podcast is reasonably funny.
