Who else?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 29 April 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I did, to my sister's first wedding.

Huk-L, Friday, 29 April 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

What'd you wear to the next one?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 29 April 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

A Colombian necktie.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 April 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I JUST noticed that grandpa simpson always wears one!

Not when he was in his buttoned down plastic fantastic Madison Avenue scene!

I'm sure James Coburn wears 'em. But I have no proof.

Huk-L, Friday, 29 April 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I know I've seen Bruce Dern in a bolo. In U-Turn maybe? (was he even in that?)

Huk-L, Friday, 29 April 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

OIL TYCOONS AND GUYS WITH RAT-TAILS AT WEDDINGS

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 29 April 2005 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It was 1993, okay?

Huk-L, Friday, 29 April 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This seems similar to the clip-on tie and possibly even the tuxedo shirt in that it's something that people who think they are too cool for fancy dress wear to occasions that call for fancy dress.

When you wear a bolo tie with a tux, you're only two steps away from ripping off the sleeve.

Huk-L, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

By tuxedo shirt, I obviously meant the t-shirt with the tuxedo design printed on it.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless you wear it with boots 'n' a Stetson or an acceptable equivalent, dud.

I believe Colonel Sanders-style string ties should be made hep at some point, though.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

col. sanders string ties not even in same category.

the only unacceptale neckware: bow ties. even dickies are better than that shit.

I obviously meant the t-shirt with the tuxedo design printed on it.

OMG who wears those? That could be a whole other thread.

happy fun ball (kenan), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Bruce Dern seems like the ideal bolo tie-wearing guy.

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I can equally imagine Jon Voight in one, for some reason.

happy fun ball (kenan), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

nick cave, like i said on the other thread, seems like a bolo wearer. possibly it's his lanky hair that suggests it. and i can easily imagine bob dylan, in his "mysterious stranger" period or whatever, clipping that moustache to john waters-ish dimensions and putting on a bolo (and stetson, etc.)

in texas they're common, like boots and stetsons and english leather and old spice. everyone in texas smells exactly like my grandfather. for many years i accepted this as a mystery of texas, but lately have come to realise it's because old men in texas all wear the same cologne and aftershave.
