I'm not gonna do a C/D on this because I just think they're weird.

Most of the lasses I've shared a bed with have worn sweats, pajamas, a tank top & shorts, underwear, whatever... but I don't recall any nightgowns. They seem to appear mostly in Hitchcock films and 'Little House on the Prairie.'

Do people still wear these... things? The ladies of ILX must explain.

hmm, note that pattern is categorized as "costume"

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

i had them when i was very young, but i wouldn't wear one now. i think they're mainly for kids and grandmas.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Aren't all ladies' underthings 'costumes' in a sense? xpost

andy --, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

those must've been some marathon foreplay sessions.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I wore nightgowns when I was very small. Now I don't wear anything. I get too tangled up in clothes while I sleep 'cos I turn over a lot. Frilly nightgowns on wee girls, k-classic. Otherwise, no.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Nightgowns are cheaper than global warming

As a child I never thought I'd wear pajamas, but given the climate here and how cold our flat gets, I do.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Scrooge wore a nightgown and cap.

andy --, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

yes I also wore them when I child. Now I either wear nothing or a little nightshirt which is similar to a long tank top.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

i think it's funny that pictures of such excessive victorian frilly nightgowns would be titled "Simplicity." Surely nude is the most simple, and best, way to sleep.

carly (carly), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

i wear a frilly nightgown with ribbons all over it.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Dude...ME TOO!

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I also wear a corset, but on my ass.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Nightgowns are a bit much, but nightshirts provide easy access for the tripotage.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Nick, what is this ass corset of which you speak?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

damnit, nick, don't make me pop a boner!

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I think 'Simplicity' is a pattern company, i.e. 'simple' to make fashions. xpoast

andy --, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

You really don't want to pop a boner in an ass corset. Brings new shades of meaning to "pop" a boner. Ouchies.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

You made my inner eye bleed.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

The ass-corset is made from baby seal bone. Allowing for a "pop a boner" triple entendre.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Is there some joke about 'clubbing' baby seals trying to get out here?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I like the french maid outfit, with feather duster. It allows for a more restful sleep.

andy --, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

This thread now = weird.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

"now"

Yes, yes, yes. This is so weird. Sweatpants and a beanie would be so much better...

(You freaks!)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Sweatpants & a beanie!? Why not leggings and a balaklava?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Porn actresses wear high-heels to bed.

andy --, Friday, 29 April 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Or Baklava? Mmm...

I like to wear vintage slips to bed, with the exception of a nightgown from Victoria's Secret, but it looks so fancy I feel like a 20s filmstar.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 29 April 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

I wear Lanz of Saltzburg flannel gowns in the winter to keep warm and have since I was a little kid, but they're not frilly like the one's shown above.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Whenever I wore nightgowns as a kid, they'd creep up past my ribcage and get all bunchy. Hated 'em.

Je4nne Ć’ury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 29 April 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I was just thinking about nightgowns and remembering how my mother took me shopping for one before I went to stay with her mother as a kid. I was actually almost shopping for a nightgown in Walmart a couple of days ago because I'm about to spend some time in the hospital and for some insane reason thought for a minute I should be wearing a nightgown while there instead of one of my many comfy XL t-shirts.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Friday, 29 April 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

You people are ridiculous. Nightgowns silly and extravagant and are great for ripping off all 19th C. like. They might have been uncomfortable in the past, in here in the future they are wonderfully over the top, and worth the hassle just for that.

Rhodia (Rhodia), Friday, 29 April 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

You anti-nightgown people are crazy, just crazy.

Then again, maybe I'm just bored at work.

hats off, indeed.

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 29 April 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

agreed, the frilly ott victorian ones are, well, frilly and ott.

but plain jane nightgowns (or 'slips' technically) are way hott.

g e o f f (gcannon), Friday, 29 April 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

http://www.unitedmaskandparty.com/Halloween/images/old_time_night_gown1.JPG

Despite my above pro-nightgown stance, I would like to formally decree the wearing of nightgowns illegal unless used while holding old-timey candle holders.

Hee hee!

Rhodia (Rhodia), Saturday, 30 April 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Its always men who like the nightgowns and fiddly frillies! Sod you, menfolk - lets see you try sleeping with a huge dress on that ends up under yr armpits 5 minutes after you get into bed.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

last week a lady on the street walked up to me and asked me if i wore sexy nighties.

WHAT?!

tehresa (tehresa), Saturday, 30 April 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)
