okay...i have this problem, and have been told by a certain someone to enlist the noggins of ile in solving it.

so, i read this fairly short sci-fi story in some random anthology a few years ago. very dream-like. spooky. about these stones, that enabled things to replicate, and change shape. it wasn't techie futuristic, but very 'the world turned into a big weird desolate circus' futuristic. there were villains trying to use the stones for some evil purpose, and there was something to do with two twin trees. (i think it actually involved two sets of twin trees, though it may have been just one pair.) it actually may have really had a circus in it.

what the hell is this story? and where can i find it again? pleeeeez?

If I could remember it, I would, but I can't, so shush to you Jess, for you are Mean.

Was it a tabloid story about Luciana Morad conceiving Mick Jagger's "love child"? (stones enabling replication, shape-changing (pregnancy), the stone's 'being used' by villains, etc, etc.?)

jess is not mean, he is scasskurly!

and no, this story has nothing to do with mick jagger's illegitimate children, even if he himself is both clownish and spooky.

Nancy, could you have just dreamed this and then convinced yourself it was something you read? This happens to me a lot.

i'm starting to think so.

but no, no it can't be. i KNOW this story exists. it has to.

looks like i may have to check in with the sci-fi reading circle down at the library. eek!
