so, i read this fairly short sci-fi story in some random anthology a few years ago. very dream-like. spooky. about these stones, that enabled things to replicate, and change shape. it wasn't techie futuristic, but very 'the world turned into a big weird desolate circus' futuristic. there were villains trying to use the stones for some evil purpose, and there was something to do with two twin trees. (i think it actually involved two sets of twin trees, though it may have been just one pair.) it actually may have really had a circus in it.
what the hell is this story? and where can i find it again? pleeeeez?
