OXFORD Y'ALL: Does anyone have a BT Landline? Might I use it, briefly?

Graaah, apparently the only way to book a visa appointment with the US embassy is to call a ONE POUND THIRTY A MINUTE NUMBER, and my mobile is barred from doing this. Does anyone have a landline, at all? I would obviously pay for the call and bring sweets etc.

Is this some new kind of 'stranger danger' tactic?

I knew this'd be Greg.

Next up: AMERICANS Y'ALL: Could anyone convince an embassy to get me into one of your 52 states?

I'm guessing the extra two are shock and surprise.

Hurrah! I am to visit Mark Hester. ILX is ace and kind.

I am still amazed there are people without landlines.

My landlord was considering getting rid of our landline, but has presumably changed his mind seeing as he's recently bought a whizzy new answer phone. When you press the button, it (usually) says "You have no message" to which I generally murmur to myself "...apart from the basic one that Good will always overcome Evil".

we have a phone in our flat, but to dial out you have to buy an ntl phonecard. and then you can't use it to phone special rate numbers

I'm still amazed that there are people *with* landlines.
