false dichotomy

lock thread

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

not really. have you seen Sasha Baron Cohen's Bruno character? he pretty much nails it.

Aaron Zanders (AaronHz), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
there's still time to change the road you're on

Aaron Zanders (AaronHz), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

are you guys really this afraid of meta threads?

Aaron Zanders (AaronHz), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

As funny as Bruno is his whole bit could easily be transposed to an art gallery scene or interviews with musicians.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Sunday, 1 May 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

yeah that's kind of the point.

Following on from the Nerd thread - let's separate Geeks from Nerds here. Ok's Lexx! Sorry Let's! And let us Geeks stand up and holler our names infront of God (the almighty) and then let's mark the activities, people or etc. as either Geek or Nerd in some sort of demented and spurious point scoring exercise.

Let's "define the wine" - A Geek is someone into something technically difficult that requires both a large amount of prior research for them to attain the status in the first place, and most importantly an they have an ongoing study of their field to keep them Geek Fresh. It can be in the scientific or artisitic sphere, and not just in the general area of their kingdom, in a specific and specialised area. There is no such thing as the Computer Geek, but there are Networking Geeks, Driver Geeks, OS Geeks, CSS Geeks etc. Geeks will be aware of this fact and have the utmost respect for other Geeks and their fields. It is no way confined to the computer stereotype - with Photography Geeks, Animation Geeks, Cooking Geeks etc.

"Geeks are hard to hold conversations with, but have interesting things to say.... nerds talk a lot, but you don't care what they say" (M. Girlfriend 2005)

Geeks of the world - stand and be counted. And let us compare our bretheren with the Nerd Bretheren so that we may feel ever so slightly better about ourselves. Let battle commence.

My feelings on the subject can be summed up by the words of a great poet:

TRY TO RUN!
TRY TO HIDE!
BREAK ON THROUGH
TO THE OTHER SIDE!
BREAK ON THROUGH
TO THE OTHER SIDE!
BREAK ON THROUGH!
BREAK ON THROUGH
BREAK ON THROUGH!
BREAK ON THROUGH!
HURTING! HURTING! HURTING! HURTING! HURTING! HURTING! HURTING! HURTING! HURT!

An interesting question conceptually but poorly phrased.

Art and criticism.

It's not a dichotomy, it's a proposed tag-team cage match.

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Saturday, 10 January 2009 07:31 (sixteen years ago)

^ if so, I want none of these people on my team. In a pinch, take art and hope for someone half-drunk but tenacious (Pollack).

the best part of the tag team cage match are the creative fashions of the wrestlers
