Mosquitoes, the sweet pestilence of evil. Nonetheless, I had heard of a Hindu tradition or story that says we owe our existence to them. It goes something like this:

The animals gathered and concluded man was utterly useless, noisy, murderous, a rapacious danger, and should be done away with. There was general agreement and the deed was going to be carried out, but then the mosquito registered an objection:

"But...they're so TASTY!"

And so we were suffered to live.

For two and a half years at my last apartment, I put up with a bathroom window that had no screen in it. I was inundated with mosquitoes. Even once they finally put a screen in (because of the ROOF RAT), lots of mosquitoes still ended up in my apartment, problem thanks to the pools of stagnant water that were often present on the flat-roof right outside my bedroom.
