Zipperhead (407 South) will be closing by month's end.
The punk-rock-clothing store has been a tourist destination since opening in 1980.
Building owner Rick Millan says he and Zipperhead proprietors Rob and Stefanie Windfelder were unable to agree on a new lease.
Millan says he was offered twice what the Windfelders are paying by a New York clothing store. He declined to reveal its name or the current or future rents on the property.
Zipperhead, one of the longest-running businesses on South Street, was immortalized in the Dead Milkmen hit "Punk Rock Girl," and was also home to a 1994 rampage by singer Courtney Love in which she cursed at staff and stole T-shirts featuring the death certificate of her late husband, Nirvana's Kurt Cobain.

it is -- but i don't think that the zipperhead owners meant it as such; i think that it was more a punk style reference/thingee.
