It's the kind of thing I liked when I was 13 (and fat).

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

CLASSIC. I want one right now.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get it. Doesn't the cheese fall through the hole in the middle?

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Those were also the days when I'd come home from Junior High and fix myself a huge plate of cheese and sour cream smothered nachos and wash it down with a chocolate coke.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pizza in the morning, pizza in the evening, pizza at suppertime. When pizza's on a bagel, you can eat pizza anytime."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

chocolate coke?

tehresa (tehresa), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHAHA. I always found that jingle extremely perplexing.

xpost

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It's kind of like "It's Pasta Anytime!" -- this is an innovation?

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Doesn't the cheese fall through the hole in the middle?

i refuse to address this query

Amon (eman), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

chocolate coke?

-- tehresa (t3hr3sad0treemi...), May 5th, 2005.

As in take one coke and pour in Hershey's syrup.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the kind of thing I liked when I was 13 (and fat).

HAHA - me too!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 May 2005 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

My mom used to buy those frozen Bagel Bites. (euulgghhh!)

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Bagel pizza totally used to be classic. Now.. not so much. I feel like i've evoled into the somewhat less filling but slightly more interesting "quesadilla" zone of snacking.

I liked frozen bagel bites when I was 12ish.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds really fucking disgusting, frankly. The chocolate coke thing, I mean. Though the bagel pizza thing sounds less than stellar too.

mouse (mouse), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Bagel pizza is good if you do it in a toaster oven.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all in that category of stuff that, if you stop eating it, for like, two years, you suddenly realize how gross it is.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all in that category of stuff that, if you stop eating it, for like, two years, you suddenly realize how gross it is.

Drinking milk and McDonalds to thread.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The thought of a glass of milk really knotts up my stomach now.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah. Just can't do it.

...chocolate soy milk, on the other hand, is my fucking JAM.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a bad feeling that if I stop drinking soy milk for long enough the same thing will happen.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my body has actually forgotten how to digest milk. Is this possible? Because I more or less stopped drinking it alltogether and now it now seems to make me sick when I do have something with milk in it.

mouse (mouse), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

classic. the ultimate "im broke as fuck and im SO not eating ramen" food. also to be appreciated: tortilla pizza.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

damn, there's nothing wrong with a good bagel pizza, or pizza bagel for that matter - every once in a while. I very rarely eat bagels (and I live in Montreal!! It is a kind of crime, I know, shh.) and I very rarely eat cheese, but, man oh man, tomorrow night is a bagel pizza night now. And salad.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I also like breakfast burritos. Super cheap (egg + flavor + tortilla).

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to like Matzah Pizza, but I think part of the reason for this was that it sounds like Macchu Picchu

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my body has actually forgotten how to digest milk. Is this possible? Because I more or less stopped drinking it alltogether and now it now seems to make me sick when I do have something with milk in it.

-- mouse (prometheu...), May 5th, 2005 12:17 AM.

i think this happened to me too. i quit drinking it and now i can't even use it in coffee because it will cause... problems.

classic. the ultimate "im broke as fuck and im SO not eating ramen" food. also to be appreciated: tortilla pizza.

-- maria tessa sciarrino (mari...), May 5th, 2005 12:33 AM.

i made it precisely because the grocery store was out of ramen (and really, wtf?? how do you run out of stock in ramen? it usually takes up about 10 square feet of shelf space!)

Amon (eman), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't really talk, because I just ate yogurt mixed with hot cocoa mix.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - (er, 100 sq ft.? a shitload anyway.)

Amon (eman), Thursday, 5 May 2005 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer OTM about using a toaster. Brush a lil olive oil on it first, too.

()ops (()()ps), Thursday, 5 May 2005 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I worked at a bagel shop once and we did pizza bagels. One time this guy came in with his son and his son's friend. The one kid ordered a chocolate bagel and a lemonade and the other kid ordered a pizza bagel and a hot chocolate.

bagel bites & Sam's Club. man, what a childhood.

kingfish maximum overdrunk (Kingfish), Thursday, 5 May 2005 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, bagel bites. My parents used to buy lots of bagel dogs too. I think I got sick of those after about a year.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 5 May 2005 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a 24 hour bagel place in Wood Green (ie where I wake up after falling asleep on the nightbus) that does pizza bagels. I have only eaten them in the small hours of the morning, but they taste pretty wonderful then.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 5 May 2005 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The small hours of the morning are meant for pizza bagels, otm. Also great for that: pizza knishes! Even more grease per square inch.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

They would make pizza bagels at the cafeteria at college. Pizza bagels on cinnamon raisin bagels? EWWWWW

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm gonna hurl.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 5 May 2005 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Pizza bagels really only seem like a smart idea if you're low on groceries and money — when you only have cheese, bagels and some leftover pizza sauce in the fridge. They were either invented by 12-year-old boys or stoners, who usually like the same foodstuffs.

sugarpants: new and improved! (sugarpants), Thursday, 5 May 2005 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Gosh, this thread is making me hungry!

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Bagel pizza, pizza burger, etc. = craptastic. Ugh.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ewwwwwwwwwwwwww! pizza burger! bleurgh! especially the kind that have sauce and cheese sealed in the middle of the patty! get thee behind me, satan!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretty classic.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to love these. Back when my parents had a toaster oven that you could make novelty foods in. Now the thought of marinara sauce on a bagel strikes me as somewhat wrong. Bagels are for cream cheese and/or lox.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Bagel pizza is good if you do it in a toaster oven.

This is an important point and not to be overlooked. Microwaving does HORRIBLE things to frozen foods in general. Hell, microwaving is universally really horrible.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

totally classic. duh, of course you need a toaster oven.

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Microwaves are good for canned soup, hot pockets, popcorn, uh...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 May 2005 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

CLASSIC! i had one at least once a week this semester.

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 5 May 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

though i'm not really a fan of the pre-made ones (ie bagel bites), probably due to the fact that for about a year it was all my little brother would eat and i thought that was sort of disgusting.

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 5 May 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i grew up on sam's club frozen crap, too.. bagel dogs, taquitos, and these horrible pancake wrapped sausages on a stick that i would inhale by the threes.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Thursday, 5 May 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

an oven oven works too. pop it in the broiler for a few min and voila.

my toaster oven is my best friend

joseph (joseph), Thursday, 5 May 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Reporting Back: It was a damn fine pizza bagel x2 (the bagels were on the small side) - Mtl bagels, moz cheese, basil tomato sauce. In toaster oven, of course! yum. I have officially broken my thai-like stirfry dinner streak of the past month.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 5 May 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm also a fan of the pizza sub, a toasted sub roll with sauce and cheese inside. basically a meatball sub sans meatballs.

There are a number of bagel pizza images where the toppings have been arranged into the shape of a face for some reason:

Mall of America! I totally did my back-to-school shopping there.

Memories.

note: don't do an image search for "food, face" unless you're prepared to see lots of pics of babies with food on their faces. More proof that, for the most part, babies are usually just cute when they're your own (or somehow related to you.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 5 May 2005 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That Bert and Ernie picture is fantastic!

I don't want pizza bagels now, but I do want a big, crusty bagel with soft cream cheese on it. Yummmmmm.

sugarpants: new and improved! (sugarpants), Friday, 6 May 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

toaster oven

I'd hate this to get like the mixer tap debate, but what's a toaster oven?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 6 May 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.gandhiappliances.com/IMMAGE/products/hb-oven.jpg

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 6 May 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

its basically a really small electric oven. You can do everything from toast bread in it, to bake pizza, chicken, anything you can do in a regular oven, just smaller. they're amazing. they heat up really fast and crisp food the way a microwave cant.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 6 May 2005 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

So, looks like a microwave, but is actually a grill. We don't have those here.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 6 May 2005 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, sort of. you wouldnt want to grill anything like burgers on the rack through, because it'll fall directly on the electric heaters and cause a lot of smoke to pour out.

where are you that doesnt have these marvels of 50's technology?

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 6 May 2005 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

We would use the grill element of the oven to do some of these things, and a standard toaster to do others. I do quite fancy having a toaster oven though, they're dinky.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 6 May 2005 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i made it precisely because the grocery store was out of ramen (and really, wtf?? how do you run out of stock in ramen? it usually takes up about 10 square feet of shelf space!)

dude thats so crazy! kidding aside, i understand. just remember in the asian supermarket there's a whole aisle devoted to the stuff and generally better quality than whats sold in traditional grocery stores.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 6 May 2005 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just (re) discovered the PIZZA PRETZEL and it's totally classic. It might be a tie with the pizza bagel.
