Dontcha think that Polling Day should be a national holiday providing you cast a vote?

I know I do....

Spend all morning in bed ruminating, making your final decision, saunter along to the polling station, cast your vote, meet friends, have lunch while discussing your choices....

The day after polling day should be a national holiday so that we can stay up all night and watch the results rolling in and not feel guilty about having to go to work on the Friday.

2 national holidays - after all, it's incredibly important.

i've had to nail myself to the office chair this morning to stop me quivering uncontrollably with excitement about this election.

Think change is in the air?

The last time I stayed up purposely to watch the election results was '97. I had to go for a job interview on the Friday morning and attended sleepless, blotto and euphoric. I got the job.

Somehow I do not think the adjective "euphoric" is going to apply this time around.

Why exactly are elections held on a Thursday anyway? The General Election is like Club FT: I know everyone gets paid on Thursday but it's damned inconvenient for us HONEST WORKING FOLK WHO HAVE TO GET UP BRISK AND EARLY ON FRIDAY MORN TO DO AN HONEST DAY'S WORK FOR AN HONEST DAY'S PAY

guv

Nah, it's likely to be "oh well," telly off and into bed.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Thursday, 5 May 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

And up tomorrow morning to face the full horror.

Yeah I stayed up all night in '79 to watch that as well. I was due to sit my French O level exam on Friday morning. Despite being inexpressibly depressed (if not at all surprised), I passed.

My dad only ever let us stay up to watch the election when he was in it. :-(
