Backache

I'm finally beginning to find this a problem - I almost keeled over at Camera Obscura, and I'm getting more and more twinges and aches in my back. What should I be doing about it before it gets too unpleasant? I don't have great posture at the best of times.

Robot porn will not help you.

get a decent seat at work (although this won't be a problem much longer will it?) I've had terrible back problems for the last few months, but since I got a decent chair here I've been much better as it corrects my awful posture and supports my lower back. Another trick is to lie in bed on your side with a pillow between your knees (I know it sounds odd) but what this does is keep your spine in a straight line while you sleep. And do sit ups, strong stomach muscles make your posture better too.

According to my grandfather the problem is evolutionary. Millions of years ago, mankind made that first painful transition from four legs to two legs, and back pain is the unfortunate by-product of this. Try walking around on four legs for a while.

get yr doctor to refer you to a physio, who will give you exercises to getcha back flexible, and to prescribe painkillers which will de-inflame muscle pain WHILE you are doing this

how you sit is most of the problem, but also things like: do you carry heavy shoulder-bags favoring one shoulder a lot

(in evolutionary terms our problems started when we stopped being cool aquatic fake-fur otter-type mammals, and lost our nictating nudespock-style third eyelids)

(as all kno)

I only get backache when I am standing up at gigs peering over heads, virtually on tip toes, for far too long. I don't know how people under 6 foot cope.

During Saturday I devolped this horrible throbbing pain in my arms, which I know isn't 'on-topic' but I want to moan, OK?

We don't go to gigs Nick.

Don't bend too much. I wake up in the morning and I can't move, because of my work. My posture is crap too. Have you considered getting a whatsitcalled. My dad has one. A Truss! Makes you straight and tall. People under 6' at gigs stare at other people's backs and occasionally sight the singer's fringe. There was a 34' plastic xmas tree being advertised in Woolies, but I think that was a mistake. No one has a front room large enough.

I went to a physio last year after injuring my back playing football. The shit she was doing was scary. All these insane excercises where she stood on me and stuff, I was trying to hold in the laughter (i'm one of those people who laughs in awkward situations) and then she said "get down on all fours" and I burst into childish giggles. The excercises sort of worked though in the end.

if she stood on you ronan, that was not physiotherapy but some kinda inverse kodanshi thing: you were well in there (provided you called her "Glorious Dominant Lady" from then on)

football injuries don't count: they should be excerbated by law, and not treatable on the nhs obv

more use than a physio would be an osteopath. Although if you can afford it pay to go and see one as the quicker you catch this and sort it out the less hassle it will be in the future.

the missus does pilates - had a big accident a couple of years back and the exercises help

Nick, we arrive really really early (thus looking very odd), stand on our own at the front (thus looking extremely un-indie and being sneered at by scenesters even more than we would be otherwise), endure soundchecks and support bands, try to elbow people who dislodge us, sustain severe injuries if the gig actually fills up, and either burst from defending our position instead of obeying the calls of nature or dehydrate due to being unable to reach the bar. It isn't very much fun. So if you were considering amputating your legs to try it, I'd advise against.
