The Dark Knight Strikes Back - Classic or Dud

This is the sequel to the Dark Knight Returns, story and drawing by Frank Miller, colouring by Lynn Varley. Issue 1 is just out.

I think it's a big bag of fun. I had feared it would read like a sad cash-in, but instead it has all the kinetic energy of the original without reading like a re-tread.

Having The Flash hooked up to a giant hamster wheel so he can power the entire East Coast of the United States was a stroke of genius.

Fun. Had a big argument with Al about this on Saturday. Fun I say.

I need to go round Al's flat and read all his comics.

I didn't like the original much, DV. It was too indie for me.

Don't go all running joke on me, Tom.

I do like the fact that one of the best bits of the original is the Batman/Superman fight, so now the sequel has several pages of Superman getting the crap knocked out of him. Cool.

I really enjoyed it. The colors were a little garish and wrong sometimes, but the overall package was excellent. I must also applaud the best use of The Atom EVER.

All a bit aimed-at-forty-year-old-men... but I like the hamster wheel and the petri dish. Still wondering whether to get issue 2...
