As for the movie...I have not actually seen it yet, but have seen enough of it on tv to decide it's probably just a really stupid take on Ghostbusters.
― Nicole, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
As for Evolution, isn't it just Ghostbusters with anal penetration gags?

I like the orchids that look so much like lady bee genitals that a male bee sometimes prefers to fuck the flower rather than a living, real lady bee.

The axolotl is a classic example of neotony in nature (retaining the physical characteristics of the baby organism). Basically it looks like a teenage salamander its whole life, never metamorphosing into grown-up amphibian stage. Why? I forget what biologists have suggested.

axolotl is my favourite animal after penguin. Also a very good short story by Julio Cortázar.

The echidna is notable for being the other monotreme besides the platypus (mammals that lay eggs but nurse their young). There are 4 species of echidna.
I am adding footnotes bcz this list left cool FACTS out!

'Axolotl' is a fucking amazing story/. Axolotls are popular pets in Japan, they're affectionately called 'wooper roopers.'

Ligers (and also tigons, I believe) have some weird genetic thing where they just keep growing forever. Or until they die of a heart condition because it can't keep up, that is..
Demonstrable proof that such beasts are truly abominations against nature, I think... Or why it's a really bad idea to keep horny lions and tigers in the same cage. The continents are separate for a reason people! And it's to stop giant flesh eating predators overrunning us...

Geoduck is a Chinese delicacy, blurk.
Echidnas and platypi moms nurse their young by secreting milk through the skin of their bellies.
He could've filled all 50 spots with nightmarish deep-sea fishies.

i seem to recall watching a tv program during childhood that suggested you can turn an axolotl into a proper grown-ass salamander by adding some chemical to the water. was this a lie??
― old chisel (haitch), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 03:30 (fifteen years ago)
it was not. awesome!
Unlike some other neotenic salamanders (Sirens and Necturus), axolotls can be induced to metamorphose by an injection of iodine (used in the production of thyroid hormones) or by shots of thyroxine hormone.
