Pleeze give examples of pple who took an ample stash and got out of thee entertainment industry before they became totally tiresome ?

one big fckff statement of intent then disappear[MLY iz noway e.g of this - as minnow] - is it probable given egoez,yes-men and kkkontractual obligato ?

i once told murray lachlan young that he 'should fuck off', although kinda......sotto voce. he obviously took my advice.

Murray did sign for a cool million but of course it didn't recoup. If the label dumped him, it would have also dumped any obligation to him, leaving him with a nice house in Kilburn. He is now married to Ms Sunshine On A Rainy Day, ie. Zoe, so I can imagine the house fair reverberates with talk of what one's 15 minutes are like.

In a previous incarnation, I interviewed MLY. He wasn't a *complete* tosser, more a clueless drama student who got lucky (although he now has less chance than Darius of working again). And of course he got nowhere near a million, he just had v smart pr people (ie Mark Borokowski). It was a bit of Sigue Sigue Sputnik stunt, really.

Re: taking a huge advance and running - didn't Royal Trux do this at one point? And for some reason the name Chakk emerges from the mist of memory - didn't they take their advance, build a huge studio in Sheffield and never release anything?

Said huge studio now used to blight the world w/ Moloko releases grr.

I once saw MLY supporting Ganger in the student union here -- through some dubious tie-up between Sony and our Ents people, I suspect. He was rubbish but turned out to be a relatively decent bloke. (If a candidate for the bad poetry thread which Tom's bad mood hav turned into). Talking to him outside under the Dome was certainly better than watching Ganger, since this was the days before one of my mates played with them, and they featured at least one member of Bis, who fresh from ToTP fame wore much more expensive skate-gear than the rest of the band. Needless to say they played turgid faux-Kraut bilge for hours.

Gnager's first 12" was so shit I ended up changing its speed twice when playing it on Cambridge University Radio. Which would have been very embarassing if there'd been anyone listening.
