Hello everyone. I'm stepping in from the shadows to ask everyone's thoughts on this. I couldn't belive it when I heard it:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=44447

The sick part is she could probably win. What do you think?

django (django), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear me, she'd definitely win over Hillary despite lack of official political experience.

Ian Riese-Moraine's all but an ark-lark! (Eastern Mantra), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

I think it's kinda insulting. They hate Hilary so much that they'd literally run anyone against her.

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

And anyone would win. How sad....I suppose Laura could loose if she failed to get the voter turn-out W had. But that seems unlikely. What about Laura against Dean?

django (django), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

I laugh to keep from crying.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

she'd lose against Dean

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

so did everyone see the numbers showing hillary leading the race (pretty big too) for 08?

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

against who?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 2 June 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah she's doing well. but she's in a tight spot. can she really run without pissing off NY voters?

django (django), Thursday, 2 June 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

Wouldn't New York voters - at least some anyway - quite like a Democrat President, though? They went for Gore over GWB by 27 points, and Kerry by 18.

Tom May (Tom May), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

That's true. Bush is apparently more popular in France than in NYC. Also she could get out of it if the Democrats beg her to run. That way it's not her choice, instead it becomes an obligation.

django (django), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

Hillary took my heart, so long ago.

the bellefox, Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Interesting to read the article .. the writer assumes that both these women would just be mouthpieces for their husbands (and others). Now it may be that the American President is just a mouthpiece for special interest groups who've bought a part of him, but it takes a certain kind of chauvinism to be so blunt about "the little women".

andyjack (andyjack), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

The thing is, I really don't see any scenario where Hilary would win. The virulent haters of Hilary are much more likely to turn out to vote against her than the people who say hypothetically in a poll that they would vote for her.

Leon hearts Crazy Frog (Ex Leon), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

leon otm.

but i originally thought this thread was a celebrity boxing matchup, and Hillary would kick that bitch's ass.

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Hillary has the highest name-recognition of any legit candidate (outside of maybe McCain and I sort of doubt he'll make a run at 72) - leading in polls this early doesn't indicate a lot of support for her.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

xpost - I dunno, Laura's killed a guy. Can't say that for Hillary (unless you count Ron Brown, Vince Foster, everyone involved with Whitewater, etc.)

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

Laura would never actually run, though. I can't imagine she'll have changed that much in 8 years.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Good point about the manslaughter, though: which u.s. presidents have actually, personally, killed people?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

I personally am quite fond of Hilary and would love to see her be the first woman president. But it isn't gonna happen, and the Democrats will be shooting themselves in the foot (once again) if they do actually nominate her. The Rabid Right will feed her into the woodchipper, I guarantee.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

The virulent haters of Hilary are much more likely to turn out to vote against her

We've alread had the virulent haters of liberty, peace and tolerance turning out to vote Bush back in - I'm not sure there are huge untapped reserves of Hillary-hate that would add to these.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

.. but she wouldn't go down without a pretty nasty fight, which is more than any Dem in the last 8 years can say.

diedre mousedropping and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

oh, you'd be surprised. There are a lot of men who vote Democratic (or don't vote at all) who hate Hillary. They don't understand why, they just do.

I dislike her politics in general, but she seems no more offensive personally than any other striving yuppie on Earth.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

I don't believe it's available online, but there was a recent New Yorker profile of McCain that was interesting--he's definitely lining things up to run. I believe the article said he's the only person outpolling Hillary at this point.

also please don't tell me anyone is taking worldnetdaily seriously.

i hate to bring this up, but no one has said anything yet, so here it goes.....(what follows does not reflect the personal views of JD from CDepot)

a Laura vs. Hillary race would clear the way for a third party canidate of from either the left or the right to completely clean up the election. who would this person be? it makes no difference, as long as its a guy.

you cant tell me that Nascar dads are going to be comfortable with a woman running things, be she republican or democrat. i go to college, and many of my more liberal guy freinds are uncomfortable with the idea of a woman in charge of a country at "war" with an enemy who views women as second class citizens. if it is hillary vs. laura, and i strongly doubt it would be, then some guy will throw his hat in the ring, become very moderate, and win the presidency.

JD from CDepot, Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

Bush vs Clinton? This guy may be interested in being the spoiler.

Maybe he'd have better luck than his Pops.

Hi Dere

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

I have no problem with someone from a Southern state being elected President .. but why must he be identified as "A Southerner" ..? Fuck the South, if a Northerner/Easterner/Westerner isn't good enough for them.

diedre mousedropping and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

they clearly are. see George Bush I and II, Dick Cheney, Ronald Reagan, Dan Quayle, etc.

and Warner isn't necessarily "from the South".

but I'm not prepared to "Fuck the South" when we essentially need to put it in play if we don't want to rely on a very slim chance again.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

I have a very large problem with the notion of having a president whose eyes are so close together. I understand this is completely irrational, but COME ON, she's like borderline cyclops!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

Warner looks like a cross between James Woods and George Thorogood.

This cannot be stressed enough.

A Condi run is far more likely than Laura, but I can't imagine Rice having the wherewithal for a presidential race anymore than Powell.

Insofar as HRC is concerned, I don't understand why she doesn't just wait till 2012. She's young enough, and though the Hillary Haters will never go for her no matter what, there will probably be considerably less of them by then.

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force, Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Oh JD! I was arguing this point with my friends last night. They were not having it. But I kept reminding them how sexist the right is. If Luara ran against a Dem-man, i think she could loose. Maybe. Don't quote me on that

django (django), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

It's not even just the right. I can think of plenty of moderates and liberal men who would not vote for Hillary.

Leon hearts Crazy Frog (Ex Leon), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Yes...but many Christians are getting sick of Bush. I don't think Laura has the charm to keep them voting. Of course, all she has to do is toss around issues like "abortion" and "gay marriage" and she'll win. Oh America...

Crap.. my little fledgling thread is finally blossoming into womanhood....but my powercord bit the dust and my battery is at 10%. Oh well. Thanks for participating everyone!

django (django), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

hilary is quite hawkish; so she'll be viewed by the wingnuts as the lesbian stalinist they've always wanted to see, meanwhile, the village voice set doesn't like her either. i read everywhere that her "numbers are good" (and novak sez she's the only real dem contender cos she has all the money locked up but, yknow, pinch of salt) but for the life of me i don't know who her supporters are. it seems the opposite of dean's problem: wide but shallow

g e o f f (gcannon), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

milo and nicole are 100% correct -- hillary for president would get creamed.

i know of no small # of guys who are at least democratic-leaning who have EXPLICITLY stated that they won't vote for hillary, no matter what. this has nothing to do w/ whether or not i personally like her or her political views -- she will be election day poison.
