3rd annual Sinker/Skidmore birthday FAP: Monday June 6th, Blue Posts Newman Street

My birthday is the Wednesday (too close to late night clubbing Poptimistic mentalism the next day), Mark's the Tuesday (he's busy), but we seem to have ended up with this on the Monday. We hope you will feel like coming along to... well, wishing us a happy birthday will be fine, but basically it's another FAP, and (pace Barry Lasagne) you can never have too many of those.

Note to those who don't know the pub in question: it is possible that we will be upstairs, depending how busy it is, whether upstairs is open, and so on. If you don't see anyone familiar downstairs, do try up.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 2 June 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Aw, if it were 14 days later, I'd be in. I'll be there in spirit, my hovas.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I wish I could attend. Best wishes to you both!

Leon hearts Crazy Frog (Ex Leon), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Thirded! I'll bring the celebrations soon enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

I have great memories of the BPNS, and its been ages since we've been there. And Tuesday is the least stressful day of the week for me - yay!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 2 June 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

If I come straight from work, I'll be there at five past four so I think I'll go home first but see you there.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

sorry, we'll be in spain... but i hope it's a good evening, and happy birthday do you both!

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

Matt, this is on the Monday!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

happy birthday you two!

g e o f f (gcannon), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I think Matt means that any ruin won't cause too much bother the next day.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

ah, good point! I must be overexcited at the impending one day a year when a prominent ILXer is the same age as me, and therefore too distracted to think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

TOO SHORT NOTICE

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 3 June 2005 05:13 (twenty years ago)

I would like to be remembered in absentia cos mine's the Tuesday, too! I wish I could be there, bigstyle. Great wishes for both of you.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 3 June 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

Hi dere! This will be good Monday-antidote.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 3 June 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

i actually have to be in central london that evening, so i am essentially otherwise engaged, but will endeavour to drop in for a quick pint and to say happy b'day, probably early on... if for some reason i don't make it, mark, keep a day free over the next few weeks for a eastside pint or two, i've been terrible at getting in touch but actually have been gadding about a lot lately and thus not around, but will mail ya ...

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 3 June 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

eastside, let do this

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 3 June 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

The pub we went to post lea or lee walk was nice, round the corner from Mark S's

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 June 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

my local's pretty good (gareth knows this and if yr lucky you get to see gr33n fron scr1tt1, m0xey from auf w1edershen pet and n1gel from 3astenders all in a line at the bar), as is the pub on the park if it's a nice day.

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 3 June 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

i was very lucky. i didnt see any of these!

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 3 June 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

Scritti Politti reformed with a line-up including Moxey Out Of Auf Wiedersehn Pet and Nigel Out Of EastEnders - I'd pay serious money to see that!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 3 June 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

I may pop in early doors. Like five past four.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 3 June 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

£20 and you can come, marcello

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 3 June 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

Tracer, we won't forget you - we had a threeway birthday FAP last year, and will toast you in absentia this time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

I will most likely be there. I'm not doing anything that day except having my anger managed. Which should put me in a good mood for a pint. Also, it's the day that my week-off-booze should be over. Not that I have any money with which too drink.

Is this the same pub where The Spy had his birthday drinks? God, it was busy. Will we have to FITE for a table again?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

tends not to be too bad on a weeknight (he says desparately trying to remember when spydrinks were and why he wasn't there). i shall no duobt put in an appearance :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Early doors, Steve?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

See you all there.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I am fairly sure that I will be there, possibly with The Ambassador and The Monitor. Time will tell.

Alix with an I ? (alix), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

earlyish PJ, 5.15 or so, can't get out much earlier...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

I shall monitor the situation, I will probably be able to make early doors too.

It's a Monday night so it shouldn't be as busy as That Horrible Night was.

Lucretia My Teleportation (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

i s'll attend if i haven't been murdered by a twatting london car-driver by then. kate, my financial situation is such i may have to join you supping meths under the table.

emsk, Friday, 3 June 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

FAP(urple liquid)?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Is the Monitor a lizard? I'd ask for a title myself, but since my job title is Senior Analyst Programmer, it'd just end up with everyone deciding that The Sap is perfect for me, and I'd get upset.

Yes, Magnus had his birthday drinks there, and it was freakishly crowded. I have been in this pub scores of times, and the odds are good of it being not at all like that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Revive, in case some people have missed this.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

martin,
i wish i could come, but i cannot.
have a vodka/tonic for me baby

anthony easton (anthony), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

I would love to be there, but can't really do Mondays in London at this short notice. Sorry. Have fun everybody!

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

happy shades and basslines 2 all

don, Monday, 6 June 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

Martin, have fun. I wish I could be there.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 6 June 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

I may pop in, or swing by, early doors then. It would be nice to see the Birthday Boys, and Carsmile and Lucretia et al. But I might just piss off home in a coma, if my 8.30am form is anything to go by.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 6 June 2005 06:33 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I'll be able to make this, but happy birthday celebrations y'all!

x

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 6 June 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

ditto :( but have a good one.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I'll be able to make this, but happy birthday celebrations y'all!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 6 June 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

Misery gutses.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 6 June 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Puuuuuub! Bring it on. There's cake in the fridge and a need for beer in my head.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

(xpost)

Pubphobic, more like, in my case at least.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

Have fun everyone - me and Sgs are at a birthday do in Wimbledon. Happy birthday chaps!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

How early doors is early doors? I'm having my anger managed from 3.45 to 4.45 - it'll take me a bit to get into town after, will people be there that early?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

this evening i could
-see my appalling relatives, if they email me before 5 (plz don't, guys)
-see antonioni's 'la notte' (life is too much like an antonioni film already, sans fucking jane birkin)
-see awful ex-friends
-meet the ilx0rz!

N_RQ, Monday, 6 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Well these are probably all likely to be vastly more enjoyable than the dreary work I'm doing tonight!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

seeing awful ex-friends sounds the best option

ken c (ken c), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

i haven't seen my mate wolverine for ages

ken c (ken c), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

Jane Birkin though!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

did he slash his ties with you using his adamantine claws?

xpost

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

awful ex-friends is last on my list, really. relatives third. jane birkin comes first for me, always.

N_RQ, Monday, 6 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

ah well, keep trying.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

I was only really calling Soziah T Azzahole and Ken C misery gutses. I don't really know any of the other misery gutsers well enough to call them misery gutses.

Besides, I am a misery guts, because I don't think I can stay awake long enough to go to this.

But I might try. I will see when I get outside.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

I take it as a compliment.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

pl. add me to the non-attending miseryguts list - or rather, the 100% utterly SKINT bastard non-attending list - sorry Martin and Mark, hope it's a gd one

Andrew L of Brockley, Monday, 6 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

definitely a more fitting title for the list.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

I think that Stringbender should attend.

Lucretia My Teleportation (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to see him actually bend some fucking string this time.

Alix (alix), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

He's a tease.

Lucretia My Teleportation (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I hope you all have a good time, especially the birthday boys. I am far too much of a misery guts to attend.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I am a misery gust.

Alix (alix), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Been eating prunes?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry I'll miss this, Martin and Mark S--I hope you have a great time celebrating! Sorry I can't be there but my thesis deadline and a prior obligation have killed my brain.

sgs needs a nap, Monday, 6 June 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I am just about to leave work after 11 and a half hours. I am screaming for beer.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

I am sorry I missed Matt DC bursting through the door in search of beer.

It was brief, but intense.

I haven't got much to Report Back. I imagine it all kicked off after I left.

We discussed this (do not click if you hate twee fuckers):

http://www.geocities.com/carsmilesteve/painting/miller.JPG

and this, which Ken did "before he existed":

http://www.geocities.com/carsmilesteve/painting/ken.jpg

and for good measure, here is the work of Mark Hester:

http://www.geocities.com/carsmilesteve/painting/mark.jpeg

A bit of an anti-climax, that one, Mark.

That OB beer is quite bad, I think. It doesn't taste especially bad, but it wreaks havoc, even in small quantities.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

I assume this is by Lucretia My Reflection in a former life:

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

bah, ended up with demanding relatives, got drunk in fitzrovia, bah.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 07:44 (twenty years ago)

Ended up with guys who talked about mentalism and bags of dicks a lot. Then the Troy Club. Then awaking on my sofa at 3am, confused and unsteady*.

*Which I had been all night.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

b4rim4 i must tell you MY troy club story one day!! it is like a scene omitted from gormenghast

thx everyone who came and everyone who couldn't and etc - i had a nice time even tho i wz SUPERTIRED last night and am not much bett4 2day

my day has been a bit bumpy so far: my oldest friend - not able to drop by last night sadly as she lives far - found out in the early hours of this morning that her dad in trinidad just died :(

so much high-speed organising and rescheduling of her day and mine has bin goin on since 7.10am: i didn't know her dad at all so luckily there is no direct emotional whatever for me, but i am a bit fuzzled all the same (and she is devastated obv)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Hello and welcome to my hangover and slightly discordant emotional aftermath. Had a good time last night despite sausage party, etc. And I cannot believe that I have been unbanned from the Troy Club.

Much talk about monkeypeople and pingpongballpeople.

And the sick, horrible feeling that I've yet again f*cked something quite important up through using a pickaxe and not an archeological tool. Or, erm, something.

It's not my fault, I'm suffering immigrant angst.

Hope everything is OK with yer friend, Mark.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

OMG the monkeypinballDNAchainganggangdance conversation.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Too bad you never actually saw the artworks in question that inspired said discussion. I wish I could remember the name of the mad scientist...

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

I have a copy of Van Hellings at home ;-).

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

Thank you everyone who came, and especially those who came with presents or cake! I had a really good time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah! I was at Kraftwerk thinking good things for you both.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)
