Pixote's the only film of his that could be considered a true (near-)classic...and even that tends to be overshadowed by other movies in the genre

Ditto on Pixote. Carandiru was like a long, less crass episode of Oz.

Ironweed didn't have to be made into a film, but Streep's perf is one of her more underrated.
