Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

Sweet!

Huk-L, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

I'd rather be stabbed in the botim by a sword than a carat

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

The next Grant Morrison?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Supercarit wun!
New TMBG songwritter right there, people!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

That comic makes me want to have a kid.

Huk-L, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

It makes me want Mully's!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

That's the best comic I've seen in a long time!!

It reminds me of a song I had when I was really little in which a kitty cat turned into a crayon.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

The author/artist was obviously heavily influenced by breakbeat jungle, Stax soul and Cabaret Voltaire.

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Here are the lyrics to the song Sarah references above. It's one of my favorite songs:

There's a kitty in the backyard (Bom, bom, bom)
Ate a crayon and got very sick (Bom, bom, bom)
Fell down, got up
Fell down, got up
Turned into a butterfly
That's what I say, ay, ay, ay, aaayyyyyyyyy
CRAYON.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

But yeah, that comic is awesome. Why are kids so cool?

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

my son's comic books
are mostly exactly like
this one; swords, botims

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Amazing, isn't it?

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

To be fair, this reminds me of 90% of my unpublished screenplays.

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Did I mention that they are all episodes of Homicide and The Shield written on spec?

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Excellent work!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

I love when kids use slightly obscure action words like "jab"!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

It's brilliant. Bryn is a very talented lad.

Super carit is my new action hero. I want sequels. Lots of them!

C J (C J), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

this is so great

sleep (sleep), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

Did he really come up with "fite" on his own?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm a bit skeptical. I see the hand of a ghostwriter.

Monkey of the SOUTH, Friday, 3 June 2005 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

I know his father, who used to mix an On-U dub/punk influenced band I was in back in the 80's: the talent for creating something wonderful out of only a small number of creative raw materials is inherited.

moley, Saturday, 4 June 2005 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

uh..whoah. i'll post another on monday when i have the scanner. bryn hasn't seen this thread yet. he's gonna get a very big head.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 4 June 2005 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

There's another one already? Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 June 2005 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

i am so proud.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 4 June 2005 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

haha, that's fantastic.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 4 June 2005 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

There was an issue of Weirdo where Aline Kominsky, the editor at the time, ran a strip by her and Crumb's daughter Sophie, 6 at the time, saying something like "I know people will cry nepotism but this is a better strip than most of what did make this issue, let alone the tons of stuff that didn't." She was right, too.

I like the first panel in particular.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 4 June 2005 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

And Rim is a meanie! Yet thwarted!

But SuperCarrot's moon episode, now that's the true genius of it all. "There was a big fight. OUCH."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

Rim is a strange name to choose i thought. His younger brother wanted me to write Rimmer on his own attempt too.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

the thread title has come true with super-glasses!

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 5 June 2005 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

nest chapter
find out

This is the best thing I've ever seen on ILE I'm quite sure!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 6 June 2005 01:05 (nineteen years ago)

The Boredoms should reform and make a concept album about this comic strip.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 6 June 2005 01:13 (nineteen years ago)

"reform"?

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Monday, 6 June 2005 01:18 (nineteen years ago)

Man, bangenging into a hose is not a good way to go.

These comics are great.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 6 June 2005 06:38 (nineteen years ago)

The wavy arm motif on Carat #3 is way cool.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Monday, 6 June 2005 07:50 (nineteen years ago)

Revive for the sleepyheads on Monday morning.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 14 July 2005 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

Very good. I see a Brueghel influence.

Felix Leiter (nordicskilla), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:06 (nineteen years ago)

I like how he looks like a flower at the end. This child is a genius.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

yes, turning lump heads into flowers.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

Fantastic!
(I want the first two panels of the new Superglasses on a t-shirt.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

The moon episode of Super Carit is my favorite so far.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:21 (nineteen years ago)

Are you saying the kid has already peaked?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:26 (nineteen years ago)

From the 'the end' panel, I can confidently predidt Bryn will be a big rugby fan.

Masked Gazza, Friday, 15 July 2005 02:55 (nineteen years ago)

he has watched 2 games of rugby league with me (first half only, then bedtime). he was quite enthusiastic.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 15 July 2005 03:04 (nineteen years ago)

"the end" looks like the font used for the Dr. Strangelove credits.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 15 July 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

Those two sketches are excellently drawn.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 15 July 2005 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

I love the way he has incorporated the erroneous "one d" into "Rim".

I'm sure I did something like that back in the day.... like accidentally scribble through a character's leg, and thus give them a scribbled leg for the rest of the strip to maintain continuity.......

By far the funniest anecdote from my "kiddy comic strip days" is when we were asked to draw pictures of an orange peel slowly decomposing over 6 weeks. The teacher said to me at one point... "Be more specific, has it grown fangs?". 6 weeks later, the orange peel had developed white furry spores, and I thought "These must be fangs like she told me" and then instructed every child in the class to write down "The orange peel has grown fangs" on their work......

JTS, Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

This is a great thread, it also makes me think of that TMBG song 'Particle Man'.

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 16 July 2005 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

Heh, yes! :D

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 17 July 2005 06:00 (nineteen years ago)

kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 July 2005 06:03 (nineteen years ago)

Poor Mr. Hair.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Monday, 25 July 2005 01:56 (nineteen years ago)

These must be turned into an animation with TMBG soundtrack forthwith! I can totally hear John&John singing about Super Carat and Mr Hair.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 25 July 2005 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

i hope he gets the belt for every misspelling

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Monday, 25 July 2005 02:52 (nineteen years ago)

The classic "X went to fight Y" formulation is clearly the most compelling aspect of Mr. Bryngrubbr's work, presenting as it does a very sophisticated view of the morality of everyday objects: sometimes it is the "good" character who seeks out his "bad" enemy for fighting purposes, and sometimes it is the opposite. The result is a subtle yet powerful commentary on both the mutability of character and the difficulties of the responsible use of power. And with this latest piece, Mr. Bryngrubbr has added further levels of complexity to this signature formulation, insofar as the character who is sought out for the purpose of a "fight" is momentarily unfindable -- a poignant symbol of loss and uncertainty in a world we assume to be knowable.

Michiko Nabiscutani, Monday, 25 July 2005 03:13 (nineteen years ago)

haha yes exactly. and although one assumes goodness and badness - just what is mr hairs crime?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

goodness vs baldness

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

"cut mr. hair's heir" = killing his son?

is this a play on words? will there be part 2?

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

guess who got their hair cut yesterday?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

your heir?

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

Let hair reign unconfined.

haitch, Friday, 20 July 2007 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

I saw the unfinished new pages at Easter! Their perfectionist auteur may never be satisified with them for publication, apparently.

In the meantime, let's imagine the Supa Carit big-budget film that might be:

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 03:00 (sixteen years ago)

I heart Supa Carit. The auteur's public demands more.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 03:05 (sixteen years ago)

I worry about the pressure. Not on Bryn, on Super Carit. Remember, it's only a week or so before he saves earth from the killer strangelet.

moley, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 03:21 (sixteen years ago)

Or stranglit.

Trayce, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 03:51 (sixteen years ago)

Reviving this thread for wont of somewhere to put this, seeing as reading Axe Cop just now reminded me of it.

Some of you might know about the Snail comic I (very rarely) draw. Well my 10 yr old neice sent me this the other day. Sorry its in PDF but its easier to see that way I guess:

I LOVE THE DENTIST!!!! (lol @ dentist with >:[ face saying DAMN!)

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

Hahaha yeah the frowny DAMN she copied off my original comic! Which made me laugh uproariously when I saw it.

HEY YOU HAVE NO TEET. Yet.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:21 (fifteen years ago)

...YET. (Cue foreboding music)

VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:22 (fifteen years ago)

I also love how dentist snail has the blue facemask on haha.

millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)
