Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 4 June 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

The better question: are you down with gmail?

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 4 June 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

hmm: it's working here. logged me in into standard view, right enough, but seems OK.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 4 June 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Not working for me, and it wasn't working about 35 mins ago when I last tried.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 4 June 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

Not working for me, either

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 4 June 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

Yes, and it gave me a cutesy error message, telling me to cross my fingers.

yeah I'm getting a 502. fuckin gmail. fucking FREE THINGS THAT DON'T WORK

Allyzay flies casual (allyzay), Saturday, 4 June 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

It's probably being made worse by the fact that everyone is getting that message so they're retrying every 5 seconds.

Huk-L, Saturday, 4 June 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

Haha yeah I mean why tell everyone "Please try again in 30 seconds" like it will magically come back to life. Like someone unplugged the server, as a joke, and will plug it back in, in 30 seconds.

Allyzay flies casual (allyzay), Saturday, 4 June 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

jermaine (jnoble), Thursday, 18 August 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

I haven't been able to log into Gmail now for 7 or so days. I'm getting very frustrated. I do a lot of pseudo-important things online, business related and now I can't access my e-mails. I've tried just about everything. POP3 access with Opera, I tried logging in with 4 different browsers (firefox, ie, lynx and opera) including https://mail.google.com/mail/. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem and it seems to only "attack" people at random. Some of my friends have accounts. My second account works fine, but my first one is BROKEN. It's not even that full, grr. I've tried from multiples computers on multiple IP addresses. I've cleared SSL state, I've cleared my cache and my cookies on all the browsers.

I'm about to start making 1000 phone calls. Sure, I'll be polite and nice and stuff, but damn it, what's going on? (Yes, I know it's a BETA. Yes. I know.)

B A L L S. I LOVE YOU GMAIL COME BACK TO ME.

tekproxy, Monday, 22 August 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Tried to send a big (not massive, less than 2 meg) file on Saturday and since then it's given me that message when I try to log on.

"Server Error

"Gmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

Tried using IE and netscape and other people's computers. No joy. Is this a temporary glitch or is part of my soul now permanently owned by google?

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Monday, 3 October 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, obviously gmail hates me right now. For anyone else who has experienced these hissy fits, how long do they last? Half my contacts are in gmail alone and I'd hate to lose them.

Tag (Tag), Monday, 3 October 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

What, both of them?

oh wait

http://eliotche.com/2012/02/gmail-ios-avoid-line-breaks-in-the-mobile-mail-app/

Because of certain technical specifications, Gmail messages sent in plain-text mode automatically force a line break after about 78 characters. This happens after you press Send.

WHAT THE FUCK. WHY.

it's kind of a miserable situation. i'm not sure about gmail though.

caek, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

the thing is, gmail used to not do it, and i've been plain text on that for years now.

goole, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:03 (thirteen years ago)

i'm having a really annoying problem with gmail on firefox. the problem is with a long thread of email exchanges developing this hideous tail that completely screws up the formatting (everything becomes so wide it doesn't fit on the screen). it used to hide the previous emails and you could see them by clicking the 'show trimmed content' button but now when i reply it creates emails that look like this:

http://i43.tinypic.com/2w6tkly.jpg

it makes the email thread impossible to read on a phone. if i reply to the same email in chrome everything is fine. other friends are having exactly the same problem so it's not just my browser.

i've tried to search for other people having the same problem but i can't find anything. maybe i am not describing it using the correct terms. can anyone help here?

tpp, Thursday, 23 May 2013 12:21 (thirteen years ago)

delete the quoted stuff?

caek, Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

ffaq doesn't explain the hard line breaks? Also f=f looks cool, objections all lame. I used to be hardcore anal plaintext and no top posting fascist but have fucked that shit since gmail.
