Do not split him in twain, as that shall double your woes.

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 4 June 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

jody my wife wants to know how you like tucson and what the prices are like there and what there is to do and all that stuff. she's thinking maybe we need to move to a sunny place and she's heard good things. you can expresso2222@gmail.com it to me if you want to, or just let it fly here to distract you from your tourette's-having roommate.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 4 June 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

i like it and rent's cheap and if you're good at making your own entertainment (as i am) you'll do fabulously. excellent thrifting, excellent urban decrepitude, awesome mexican food (and other kinds of food), lots of yuppie coffee bars with wifi.

to let - flats (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 4 June 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

plus it's 60 miles from the mexican border!

to let - flats (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 4 June 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

Okay, we are there,

to let - flats (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

And how, Jody, do you feel about this roommate and his peculiarities?

Aaron A., Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

Too bad he's not speaking English. Otherwise you could just post the things he says to this thread and soon he would become an ILX legend, like Matos's stepdad.

Who's he talking to, his girlfriend? Is he talking on the phone?

k/l (Ken L), Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

I must have missed something. Um, JBR, why'd you move to AZ?

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Sunday, 5 June 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Sunday, 5 June 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Were an English speakers would use the expression "It's Greek to me" a Spanish speaker would describe something as being "chino basico"- "Basic Chinese."

k/l (Ken L), Sunday, 5 June 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

Gotcha. It's just that I literally didn't know anything about it...even though it's probably mentioned on 100 threads.

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Sunday, 5 June 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

Some even call it "Mandarin" or "Cantonese"!

i know that, and i knew someone was going to call me out on that, but i honestly don't know whether he's speaking mandarin or cantonese and i'm not sure how i would tell the difference.

to let - flats (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 5 June 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

Cantonese is more gutteral and meanings vary way more depending on inflection. Mandarin is better and less spaz sounding.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Sunday, 5 June 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Does ken c speak chinese? I'll swallow crack if he does.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Sunday, 5 June 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

I used to speak Cantonese quite well back in the days when I worked in Hong Kong, though I've forgotten a lot of it now. Having an ordinary everyday pleasant conversation in Cantonese does sound a bit like you're having an angry shouting match.

C J (C J), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

lecoq yr worth more than that. ken c likes shit, a lot.

let's not get carried away now., Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Enjoy the crack, LeCoq.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 5 June 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Just joking guys, I only speak english too.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Sunday, 5 June 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

one of my housemates is cantonese speaking, and says when she has to speak cantonese on the phone to her parents, its tiring, because its like shouting the whole time

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Talking in Cantonese on the phone to my parents when my friends are around is fun. Because I talk in a mixture of Cantonese and English, my friends just catch random words. It confuses them a lot.

Strangly one of my friends also speaks Cantonese, but she refuses to talk to me with it. Even when I tried talking to her in Chinese, she would still reply in English.

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Mandarin's closer to sounding like songbirds, plus you've got those cute little oranges.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

what the hell is jody doing in tuscon?

also, i hope your roommate is talking to you in chinese

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

My friend studied Chinese. She was apparently so ace at it, her professor begged her to become an assistant. She said no, she was more interested in bookbinding. I repeat, bookbinding. Gawd, I only wish I had 10 percent of her brain. :-( That said, I just don't like Chinese. Sorry, it's one of the few languages I really dislike (partially because I don't understand it, hence can only judge it on the basis of what it sounds like....)

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

which chinese though? there are about 20.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

to let - flats (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

to let - flats (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)
