I can barely see at the moment, and my sinuses feel like log flumes. Why didn't I stock up on Pyritin or Pyriteze or whatever two weeks ago?

Please discuss your feeling like death, watery eyes and snotty nose experiences of the next few months at the moment.

Mine is worst mid-June, so I'll be back in a short while with the gory details, I'm sure.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

My eyes get these black/purple rings of death around them along with this. Does this happen to anyone else? Not like a black eye, but like half of one.

I get so much mucus in the back of my throat i feel like im drowning. Also my tonsils are swollen all year round constantly. The doctor thinks this is fine though.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

I get a dry cough, along with a big ole mucus party in my nose, and 'Affair To Remember' watery eyes. I take Loratadine, which takes the edge off without all the speed-like side-effects of Claritin, but I still can't hang outside for any length of time. I hate grass. I hate pollen. I hate trees. I hate wind.

I'm surprised - I've had hardly any hay fever yet this year.

No doubt posting this will be the Kiss Of Death to my sinuses.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

I've virually no symptoms this year, fingers crossed.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

And touch wood.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

as long as it's not birch.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea what actually gives me hay fever, but I get the feeling that a hell of a lot does.

When I'm in the Hebrides in, say, July or August, my hay fever flicks on and off like a switch depending on the soil type I'm on. This may be partially psychosomatic; or it may indicate that I don't have much trouble from wind-born pollen.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

You can sometimes tell which pollen affects you by what foods make your mouth itch.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

I don't think any do.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

wind-borne of course.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

Mine has calmed down a lot bizarrely, it's more of a March-May thing.

'Buy One Get One Free' on packs of hay fever tablets in Boots this week.

I've not been troubled by much hay fever this year so far, but I'm a little bit snuffly and watery-eyed this morning, so maybe it all starts here. The worst thing for me is usually getting anywhere near the yellow fields of flowering rapeseed - terrible stuff.

The only tablets which stop the sneezing are Piriton but they knock me out cold and I sleep for about 12 hours straight and feel horribly groggy afterwards, so I seldom bother taking anything. Nasal irrigation with lukewarm saline solution helps a bit though.

C J (C J), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh, yes, rapeseed flowers are terrible for my hay fever too.

I used to love Piriton liquid when I was little, because it was sooo sweet. The most reliable tablets for me were Triludan (terfenadine), but that's banned now and my stockpile ran out the other year.

(banned because it can lead to liver damage if you eat grapefruits or grapefruit juice whilst on it, apparently)

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know that caitlin. I've just looked it up, and it says that the successor to Terfenadine is something called Fexofenadine, marketed under the name of Telfast 120. Have you tried asking for that? I don't know if it's prescription-only, or whether you can buy it from the Pharmacist.

C J (C J), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

I've not heard of that one; since terfenadine disappeared I've not bothered getting hay fever remedies on scrip.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

eighteen years pass...

Wtf is this thing, get it off me!

H.P, Saturday, 13 April 2024 01:05 (one year ago)

No kidding.

fajita seas, Saturday, 13 April 2024 02:04 (one year ago)

a lot of rain in spring brings something forth that hates me. it must grow on trees. ugh.

scott seward, Saturday, 13 April 2024 02:49 (one year ago)

In the past week and a half the trees have been pouring out pollen in vast clouds on any of the warmer, sunnier days. It accumulates rapidly as a gritty powder. Wipe it away from an outdoor surface on those days and in 15 minutes you can feel the same grittiness. Which makes it all the more astounding to me that my body's reaction to this onslaught has been to shrug and say "eh". This is not normal for me, but I find it strange and wonderful. No telling what will happen when the various grass pollens rocket up in May/June, but I'm grateful for this unearned respite!

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Saturday, 13 April 2024 02:59 (one year ago)

i try to have a tablespoon of local honey every morning. usually on my yogurt or oatmeal. you never know. it might make me invincible.
