Have you seen SAW? Explain it to me please.

I saw the film SAW this weekend, and the film was more stoned that *I* was. It started out like a bad Waiting For Godot parody and two million Blair-Witch montages later, some guy sawed his leg off, to get away from the wooden acting, I think. If there was a plot, I missed it. Can you tell me what this film was about? I mean is it really just "How far will you go to save yourself". Was it as dumb as it seemed? Am I missing something?

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 6 June 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

it was about a bad guy serial killer who was brilliant and evil.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 6 June 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

It was dumber than it seemed.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 June 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

This film was written by two aussie guys and it was one of those stories where everybodys like 'These guys are now huge in hollywood and really important in nth america' cause it had a big opening w/e and then the film came out and critics gave it two stars- now they are never to be heard of again.

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

This movie was hilarious!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

I will admit the one thing where the girl had the cage dealie strapped to her head was actually truly kinda unsettling.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

It was dumber than it seemed.

Impossible.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

never to be heard of again? Sadly no. Theyre filming SAW 2 and 3 at the same time AS WE SPEAK.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

i thought it was a pretty ok seven ripoff actually! i mean totally retarded and derivative in every way, yeah.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

I think it would work well on stage.

otm! during the climactic scene at the end where the 'truth' is discovered i was laughing so hard i thought i was going to pass out. the overacting by cary elwes was something to behold.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

i was totally entertained by it.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

word!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Uh... they are filming Saw 2 as we speak, but not Saw 3. And the poster for Saw 2 rocks.

Saw was excellent. A great giallo homage.

BTW worst underuse of Brion James since oh actually ever (I think it was Brion James, right?)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

I can't seem to confirm that. He's dead now right though?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Nevermind it must have been a Brion James look-a-like.

Worst underuse of a Brion James look-a-like ever then.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Okay so who actually played the Brion James look-a-like then? Did that guy not get a credit (I mean he doesn't have any lines really)? Now I am totally curious. IMDB is no help.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

Lets turn this into a Brion James thread. POV Brion James movies:

Bladerunner
Southern Comfort
Crimewave
48 Hours
Cherry 2000

the astonishing thing about a truly bad movie is that spoilers don't actually help it make any more sense.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

Lawrence meanwhile has completely lost it; believing his family has been killed, he saws his own foot off, crawls over to the dead man's gun, loads it with the bullet and shoots Adam. Outside the room, Zep and Tapp are in a tussle - Zep shoots Tapp, killing him. He opens the door to the room, and is about to kill Lawrence when Adam grabs him and beats him over the head with the lid of the toilet tank, killing him. Lawrence tells Adam he will go for help, or they'll both bleed to death. He crawls away, and just after he does, Adam finds a tape recorder on Zep. The voice on the tape is that of Jigsaw - telling Zep that to get the antidote for the poison in him, he will have to set up the situation with Lawrence, his family and Adam. Behind Adam, the 'dead' man suddenly stands up, pulling a mask off, and revealing himself to be John, the patient from earlier. He electrocutes Adam when he tries to shoot John, and walks out the room, slamming the door shut again, and leaving Adam screaming in the dark.

I can't even follow it in writing, let alone on the screen.

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

I heard so much about this film I just had to experience it. The terror, the gore, the horror of it all.

What a load of shite!

The best bit was when the lame guy (the one out of liar liar) crawled away with a cloth over his very visibly still attached foot. Can’t believe I walked to blockbusters and spent 3 quid on it.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)
