M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Hey Jon! Are you stuck in traffic or something? Keep a lookout for the fake windows w/ flowerpots wallpaper on the walls of the bombed-out buildings.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

He's on an adventure, just like the Goonies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Everyone's phone be ringing mad loud with Disney. ILX doesnt let me log in!

Jw, Monday, 6 June 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Jon, that seems a parlous amount of Gummi bears to take on an adventure.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

Is there a Gummi drought or something?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

Maybe you should get out at the zoo and see the real bears.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

How the hell can you post from a bus? Do they have Internet access nowadays?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

When I stayed in a hotel in Germany, the maids would put Gummi bears on my made bed every morning. Is that what happens when you stay at Ian's?

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

I am traveling to providence RI. I was searched by security goons at Port Auth. Is this normal?

JW, Monday, 6 June 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

1) no images please!

Delicious, delectable irony!

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

Sidekick, no? On buses these days 'tis easier to post than piss, methinks.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Is this normal?

Do you look like a Gummi Smüggler?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Are you running Gummi guns for the Rhode Island insurgents?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

Was für ein Gummibär ist das?

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

They're made by Haribo. Did you get confused and think they were made by Heino?

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Will you two stop saying Gummi so much?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Hope the umlauts don't mess up your feed.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

I was just talking 'bout Heino.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Mit der Gummiheit die Götter kämpfen selbst vergebens.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

No one's answered my question... How can Jon post from a bus?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Mikey, what are we doing jamming his airwaves with all this nutzlos German? He's in the Bronx, drop some Spanish on him!

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

By phone Tuomas?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

I'm behind the curve, but can't people do that with these cellphone/PDAs like Sidekick (see upthread)? Haven't people posted instantaneous concert reviews here before?

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Mobile telephony, Tuomas. Dude, you're Finnish, don't you have Nokias grafted on at birth over there?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Shouldn't that be nußlos?

(x-post)

Okay, I see. The wonders of technology...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

He's gonna kill us for that. Once he's logged ona again we get mad images up the wazoo. But it is a beautiful poem.

You're a hard nut to crack, Tuomas.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I ride the Greyhound bus, I ride it everywhere.
Oh how I count the ways. The answer lies within me.
I love my rollerskates, I ride them everywhere.
Circle, frozey, turtle knee. How can I find the saviour?

Got the coolest BMX, I ride it everywhere.
'Cause nobler to die for truth, is holy to repair one sin.
My daddy has a Subaru, I ride it everywhere.
Well mine travles like a wave, my mind travles like a wave.
Well I ride it everywhere.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Omg it ate my 3000000 word post. In short: nokia, want mobile Opera, thought I had Williamsburg scabiesfrom couch when I woke. Just met girl from tenn.

Jw, Monday, 6 June 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Btw, wtf are organic cookies? Are they grown on cookie trees without pesticide? Are they made from organs?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Hang in there, man. Ugh. Greyhound Bus --- what a crap way to travel. Good luck. Hope the restroom doesn't stink too bad.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Why is ilx the only thing that breaks cookies on my phone? Also my moldy peaches lovin ex used to make counterfeit greyhound Ameripasses

Jw, Monday, 6 June 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

counterfeit greyhound Ameripasses

Did they work?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

HI JON!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Yea the passes worked. Bus travel is so much better than train in the USA except if the journey is in the eastern corridor and longer than a few hours.

JW, Monday, 6 June 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

i'll stand behind that -- when my mom had to go down to florida to see my grandmother, she first took the amtrak. but she so hated it, that she took the bus back.

she could've taken the plane, but she's afraid of flying.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Bus travel is so much better than train in the USA except if the journey is in the eastern corridor and longer than a few hours.

There are a few exceptions, but this is depressingly true.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Jon were you walking south on Universty Place last week? If so, I saw you and regret not saying anything to you.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I rode a Greyhound from downtown Tallahassee to New York (Port Authority) a few days before I turned 17. 24-hour trip, both ways. It didn't go so badly -- it was like spending a day on the local city buses.

Ian Riese-Moraine. Sweeter than a lorry load of white Toblerones. (Eastern Mantr, Monday, 6 June 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Alex, you should've Jon come over and babysit.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

had

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Alex! Was I with Ian? He swears he saw someone who looked like you but we had already gone by. Not entirely sure where we were; past two weeks are kind of fuzzy. Where is University pl in terms of the ave/st grid? I think we were on a Gray's Papaya trip.

Jw, Monday, 6 June 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if I'd recognize Ian, but in that case I'm sure it was you. You had your shades on. Oh well.

University Place is a short avenue that runs between Union Square and Washington Square Park in between Broadway and Fifth Avenue. I live on it.

If I remember correctly, I was wearing this t-shirt under a black jacket.

http://www.maliciousdamage.biz/shop/images/mustard.jpg

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Did you do that on purpose?

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Unless you got the shirt very wrong t'wasnt me. But i was in that area plenty.

Jw, Monday, 6 June 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

You went to BBQ on 8th Street? Your poor innards. Had I known, I'd have directed you to a finer establishment at which to procure such vittles.

I was actually on my way to (Ass)Whole Foods on 14th Street to purchase baby muesli (not very rock'n'roll of me, I know, but c'est la guerre).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I actually like eating at that BBQ place. I used to do it regularly between classes. Jon was thoroughly unimpresed, but he got a big margarita that made him foolish.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

i think that i've been to that BBQ place -- it's good so alex is wrong.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

It's passable at best (and I should know ---- I live right above it), but there a thousand better BBQ placs in NYC.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

the lunch specials are ludicrously cheap. $4 for a huge bbq pork sammich and a big plate of fries? I'm into it.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

maybe i'll go there for lunch today -- maybe i'll even bump in mr. honor the fire myself!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

It's lots of cheap food for young people with cast-iron stomachs. And for Tad, I guess.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Anway, it's probably for the best that Alex and Jon didn't meet, because if they had- especially without proper precautions- ILX might have imploded.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Anway, it's probably for the best that Alex and Jon didn't meet, because if they had- especially without proper precautions- ILX might have imploded.

yeah -- like that star trek episode where matter-man and antimatter-man had to be kept locked in a room, lest the entire matter- and antimatter-universes explode.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm at work, Eizbo, so chances are you won't. Ya might run into my wife and child, tho'.

I'd sooner cite ACME on Jones Street for barbecue.

Anway, it's probably for the best that Alex and Jon didn't meet, because if they had- especially without proper precautions- ILX might have imploded.

I'd love to meet Jon. If I remember correctly, however, I think Ian thinks I'm a jackass.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I get mean; sorry, Alex!

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Alex, do you ever go to Gimme records?

I have, but I don't have a turntable anymore, so it's kinda pointless for me these days.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I get mean; sorry, Alex!

And sometimes I am a stupid jackass. No worries, Ian.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

ian has called me a cock, on several occasions!

(p.s.: i probably deserved it)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Y'know what they say......if the shoe fits,....KICK SOMEONE WITH IT!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

I giggled like a fool while tediously scrolling this. I would certainly bro down with all you guys. I anticipate a mega-FAP when I move to the city in August

JW, Monday, 6 June 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

So, JW -

Did you hear that Michael Jacson was found Guilty?

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Michael, can you fly out for this auspicious event? Dave, you can take the bus.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

Alas, no. My NYC trip of the year was early last month.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

No! Wtf. This girl is sitting behind her boyfriend here and rubbing his big bald head.

Jw, Monday, 6 June 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

See, real life can be as entertaining as internet message boards.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

I just might do it. (Line up a good show weekend.)

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

It's a Markelby-bot, riding on your trail!

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

I got home ok and got the number of a sexy runaway teen!

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

I am also on a Greyhound bus, although I am in Schenectady NY en route to Boston. Luckily the air conditioning works fine. Unfortunately the bus' engine sounds like it's on the verge of exploding. Only five hours to go.

I wish my Sidekick had Bluetooth. I tried to impress the girl behind me by editing something elaborate in Logic, but she didn't seem interested.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

tell me this runaway teen story, sounds funny.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

sounds creepy.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Creeping me out too.

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

whatever, crepes.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

SHE IS FROM LEXINGTON KY AND HATES HER DAD, LIKES PORN.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

she's from hpencil's hometown?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

So, what's the chance of catching scabies on a Greyhound bus?

I'm thinking of taking Greyhound from Seattle down to Portland for time and efficiency reasons this Friday night, rather than an Amtrak train which will likely be late.

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

i am not from lexington, dummah.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

i like teh amtrak from seattle to pdx.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I think taking the Amtrak for a long trip would rule if you had a bunch of mushrooms and a bunch of cool friends.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

i have taken the amtrak from st. louis to new mexico and back three times, and from chicago to new york once. it ruled.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

i like teh amtrak from seattle to pdx.

I do too. But in this case, whether I catch a show or not the night of is the issue. if time wasn't of the essence, I wouldn't even ask.

Unless Greyhound is just as prone to failures or delays as Amtrak, in which case, Amtrak COME TO PAPPA!

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

the driver might get stabbed

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

I need numbers and stats though.. what are the CHANCES of the driver being stabbed?

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

Then again, bus drivers in the northwest tend to be the ones more likely to stab than the riders... so, as long as I'm nice, I think I'll be fine.

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Jon, if that runaway girl introduces you to a funky-talking white rasta with a gold tooth, RUN!!

k/l (Ken L), Monday, 6 June 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

I would certainly bro down with all you guys.
The funny thing about this is that, as far as I can tell, aside from hstencil all the NYC-based IlX0rs who posted here are some of the least hanging-out people on the board.

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

worst bus + worst pedestrian street = bad news

http://gothamist.com/2008/01/14/chinatown_bus_r.php

gabbneb, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

thanks to the eastcoast storm, I'm fairly sure my bus route isn't cancelled tonight, but I don't know for sure. unlike other travel websites, they have no option to check each route's schedule to see if it's delayed/cancelled/etc. just an option to buy tickets. They've put up a Service Alert on the site...which is at least 2-3 hours behind the latest phone message I heard.

Because of the poor info on the website, everybody's calling, so their 1-800 number is jammed up. I'm gonna be pretty pissed if I waste a trip down there tonight simply cuz they're not competent enough to make it easy to determine.

Bitch, it cold outside!!! BURR (San Te), Sunday, 26 December 2010 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

greyhound has never once been competent

bear, bear, bear, Sunday, 26 December 2010 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

yea, that was my experience with them back in 1999-2000 when I last used them. sadly this is a last resort due to Amtrak being sold out on the train I need and plane fare being too expensive. I'll hafta endure.

Bitch, it cold outside!!! BURR (San Te), Sunday, 26 December 2010 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

website updated once at 10 a.m. with minor cancellations, but not my route.

Phone line tied up all day, but I get through before we leave for the greyhound station, and several cancellations/delays, but not my route.

We get there, and find out they've cancelled all buses out of Raleigh station. as of right now, their website nor their phone number have this info.

what the fuck is wrong with these assholes. Amtrak and most airlines havei t to where you don't make an unneeded trip.

Bitch, it cold outside!!! BURR (San Te), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

write them angry letter, get free ticket for further bleak traveling.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Monday, 27 December 2010 00:34 (fourteen years ago)

three years pass...

i haven't "gone greyhound" in like a decade. would a los angeles -> seattle trip be pleasant, or am i gonna get munched on by a cannibal like that guy in canada?

Esa-Pekka Merkerson (get bent), Sunday, 12 January 2014 08:15 (eleven years ago)

it would probably be awful because it's overnight and greyhound
amtrak coast starlight instead? takes in some amazing scenery and carries far fewer difficult people
