"The Brick" mp3 player 60BG cheap iPod alternative w/ fm-tuner and digital input recorder

What was the name of it again? I've bookmarked it at home, but figured I'd waste a thread anyway because it is totally unsearchable. I tried "geeky unstylish brick ipod," which was the description the proud owner gave, and variations of all those words and turned up nothing on ILX. It should have it's own thread because it sounds like the most awesomest mp3 player.

Maybe it's made by Archos. Their products are pretty ugly/brick-like.

I think it was the DMC XClef 500.

how much we talking?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

we talkin' cheap!

Brother Builder (Unfortunate Prankster), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Uh, sorry jed, I thought the prices were listed but I see it just says out of stock. I believe the 60GB model was under $300.

But, the newest model is still available. See below.

The newest model is a 30 gigger with all these extras for $279: games and a personal records thing that you can update with Outlook express plays all the same formats as the others: WMA, MP3, Ogg Vorbis and I think something else, plus it's just a simple harddrive making it easy to plug and drop new files into it. It allows you to search and view the files by a bunch of methods...

elwisty (elwisty), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

it IS ugly, though.

From Zero To Drunk In Twenty Dollars (nordicskilla), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

It was in the UK first, I think.Look for Xclef, that seems to turn up all UK sites.

I don't really think it's ugly for some reason. It just looks '70s, which I kind of like. It will be in my pocket, not on display.

Brother Builder (Unfortunate Prankster), Monday, 6 June 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

OK, this one is fuckin' ugly.

Look at that font choice for DMC!

Brother Builder (Unfortunate Prankster), Monday, 6 June 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

Hm, they are guaranteed for 1 year. I wonder if they're guaranteed to break shortly thereafter. You know how that shit works. It does look as if they are trying to scream "cheap piece of shit" with the design on that last one for sure.

DMC = DELOREAN MOTOR CORPORATION
