College Reunions: Classic or Dud?

I don't necessarily mean big events where the bunting is out at the old school and everyone comes back from all over the land to show off their spouses. That sort of thing's strictly for the movies, anyway. Just as valid for thread: limited reunions with a select few people from school / college / university etc - heck, even just going out for a drink with one old classmate, I don't know. Good to go back, or should we be so glad to grow older - to move away from those awful times?

I don't think they serve much use. Just move on. They are only goo d if someone owed you money way back when and its time to collect. Yes, reunions can turn ugly.

Ugly? Tell me more.

I just randomly keep in touch with certain people here and there. It's cool. :-)

Reunions dud. Very weird as well. I know it doesn't make sense but I kind of expected everyone to be as they were when I last saw most of them (17/18/19), and was disappointed to find they were in their early 30's getting, fat, dull and bald.

However I've kept in touch with a couple of guys though and hopefully we'll still be mates when we're getting our pensions at the post office.

My freinds and I once crashed a college reunion of people liek 10 years older than me . I pretended to know people. It wasn't fun.

Nah, watch Romy & Michelle. I used to dream about my HS reunion when I was there. Now I could give a fuck.

R&M's HSR - that's a great picture.

Geez...I guess I meeting with old school friends is nice, but when the conversation turns only to discussing "what do you think happened to...", that's when it gets boring.

I don't think I've seen anyone I went to college or high school in... well, a long time. Kind of hard when you're living in another country. I kinda don't want to see any of them. The last college friend I saw, we planned to go to Scotland together, we fought to the point of never seeing each other again within 4 hours of his landing at Heathrow. So, dud.

Every reunion I've gone to (all two!) has been tons and tons of fun. I guess I'm weird or something. (Or not as misanthropic as I thought I was...)

twenty-three years pass...

lol this board is not very nostalgic, huh

I went to another college reunion this past weekend and it was super fun, again. I reconnected with a roommate who had all but vanished after graduation and we picked up from where we had left off almost like no time had passed.

I will say, though, that it’s much easier to make a reunion being held within effective walking distance of your house

This was my experience when I went to the 30 year reunion for school/class I transferred out of. I spent two years there before leaving for a much larger state school. It was easy to lose touch then obv and I'd barely talked to anyone in decades. But a friend reconnected before the reunion and invited me. Other than everyone needing to go to sleep earlier, it was ~1990 all over again. Had a great time and am grateful to have been invited.

That said, I would never go to a reunion of the school where I did actually graduate b/c no one I'd want to see would show up for it.

i'd only ever consider a high school reunion at this point - pretty certain anyone from my college days that i'd want to see i still do at this point.

I can't even comprehend a college reunion, I didn't graduate anyway but we didn't have anything resembling classes that interacted together.

I went to my 10th high school reunion and that was actually fun but I've stayed in touch to varying degrees with people since then. Skipped the 20th, no reason to see the people I haven't kept in touch with and many of those went batshit between 2016 and 2020. I don't need my kindergarten classmate turned essential oils kingpin yelling at me in public about MS-13 and vaccines.

I have never had any need to attend one. High school wasn't a barrel of fun for me, and I retain zero friends from that time in my life. The few I stayed friends with after school ended, I had to walk away from after a couple years as there was all this toxic oneupmanship going on. And then I moved a whole nother state away. Good riddance to the lot.
