Summer series on
the USA Network, now
in its Season Two

Premise: suddenly,
4400 people
suddenly appear

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

what's weird is that I didn't see a single promo for this for the first season, but no it's everywhere.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

i know! i saw a promo for it and thought 'hmm intriguing' and then saw it was second season and on usa (for some reason i thought it was f/x who's shows i believe in, the mark of quality, etc) and passed.

j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

I saw a promo for it at the movie theater.

I filed it under intriguing!!

The folks in Bedroom Walls were tickled to find out a song of theirs apparently is key to the season finale -- as in the sequence was intentionally edited to the song!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

I really want this to be like "Left Behind" but with aliens.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

The reasons I'm this *pinchy finger thing* close to getting cable RIGHT NOW: The 4400, Avatar: The Last Airbender, the tiny possibility that Chappelle might one day do a third season.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

The preview I saw for it gave me goosebumps!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

I stopped watching after the first two episodes of the first season, and I wonder whether I made the wrong decision. It really didn't go in the way I wanted it to, at least not at first. Acting was atrocious, to boot.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

acting is better,
characters have come alive
and gotten SPOOKY

faves: demon baby;
spooky monkey-looking child;
their new boss (k-rowr);

billy campbell too,
when he has a beard it means
he is QUITE EVIL

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

Demon baby is the coolest thing on television. She is awesome.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

she fuct up them crackers REAL bad! that was so much harsher than anything on '24' or 'alias' this season.

real name of the actor who plays seriously earnest WWII black vet guy who may or may not be the father of demon baby: Mahershalalhashbaz Ali.

note to character played by Mr. Ali: if demon baby, who at 6 months can communicate telepathically with your wife, says to move out of your creepy backwoods log cabin, FUCKING DO IT

Well, that was bizarre.

This show is terrible, but in a good way, like a dumbed-down X-Files (not that the X-Files was high culture or anything, but it focused a little less on plot and more on good writing/characters to start off).

The lead actress's accent is great, Australian women who do American accents always sound hot.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 29 August 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Yes, it was bizarre, but no, it's a really good show. The last 60 seconds of the last episode had 7 different plot twists for next year: JC the hobo! powers apoppin'! milo's payoff spoiled by maya! the next level of the demon baby! what the holy hell am I supposed to do till next summer?

Milo, we never agree on anything at all that has to do with aesthetics or sports or culture, never even once I think. Maybe politics but I don't remember. But you seem like a good person!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 29 August 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

Wow we must not be too far behind the US on this. This is quite high profile in Australia, perhaps because of Jaqueline McKenzie.

I enjoy this show a lot but as i've said I really have no barriers when it comes to TV.

The actor who plays the guy who runs the big 4400 Institute always seems to have these enigmatic SEX roles doesn't he.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 29 August 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

First non-HBO, non-NFL programming to catch my attention since Buffy/Angel went away. (Yes, I have heard of Teh Shield and nip/tuck.)

like a dumbed-down X-Files (not that the X-Files was high culture or anything, but it focused a little less on plot and more on good writing/characters to start off

iirc, X-files was both great and almost embarassingly amateurish in its first season. 4400 certainly no worse, with that same lovely grey light that only shooting on the cheap in Vancouver can give you.

Last ep kinda unsatisfying, but gave plenty of reasons to tune in for next season's opener. Shapely demon baby boo-tay not least among them.

PS - I'm really hoping Jordan Collier brings Wilson with him when he comes back... He needs a good foil to explain all his machiavellian plans to, and since there's already a nice 4400/Deadwood trade route operating, he might as well steal Al's Chief Head-In-The-Box sidekick...

rogermexico (rogermexico), Monday, 29 August 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm not sure I followed all the twists in the last episode -- could somebody list them somewhat completely?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 29 August 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Bump because next Sunday USA is doing a 13-episode marathon of all the shows most germane to the overall plot (meaning: none of the stand-alones), followed by a special summing everything up. First episode of Season Three follows June 11. Yay.

I am strangely addicted to this despite some of the worse acting I've seen in recent years.

DRACULA 2000

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

haven't seen this yet meself, but heard about it from a friend and then my 14 yo cousin had it on his wishlist (I got it for him for his birthday). Sounds interesting. Altho it also sounds bad, judging from the comments here...

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

It varies. The main hero guy is pretty boring, as are his wifey-troubles, son, etc.. Everything else is at least passable (if sometimes cheesy and labored - THE 4400 ARE LIKE DETAINEES DO U C?), the main woman and her daughter and their issues are good, most of the monsters of the week have been decent.

one year passes...

despite lapses into bad acting, this season has been the best yet.

fourteen years pass...

they rebooted this?

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 27 October 2021 02:45 (four years ago)

is there something that was lacking in the original series, just seems weird since it's not THAT old

the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 27 October 2021 02:49 (four years ago)

probably because of the popularity of Manifest, which rips off a lot of stuff from 4400 imo
