la rochelle vs. biarritz

I am planning a trip to France and wondered what people have to say about La Rochelle and Biarritz. I am looking for a quiet beach vacation at the end of June.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

i used to go to la rochelle with my fam for holiday vactions every year. it's beautiful, i think... i was 10. so who knows? there were great beaches within driving distance. i'm pretty sure it's nicer (smaller) than biarritz, but i could be wrong

oh fuck that, i meant La Napoule, which is somewhere else entirely. i believe buarritz is a bit the tack, though.

I've only been to Biarritz and spent most of the time lusting over surfer boys. I was about 14 I think. The beach was lovely - the water got deep nice and quick and the waves were great fun. I also had an accident that involved trying to stand on a body board and getting surfed over by a nice chap who dragged me back to shore. It was a riot!

I'd like to go to La Rochelle one day though because it was so heavily featured in Tricolore.

Second to Les Sables d'Olonne, I used to holiday at a campsite near there (St Julien des Landes) every year as a kid. Les Sables is a buzzing little town with a decent beach and loads of bars and restaurants.

La Rochelle is good for a day trip - has a fantastic market there.

I've been to both places. In the end, they were not in the same place, which was handy to get to and from.
