Ned in London -- FAPs/shows/parties/whatever July 8th through 11th

Okay, my European trip is coming up quickly here and you poor souls you my dear friends might care. Or not. It's up to you. ;-)

I'll be staying with the good Mr. Stevie Chick and will arrive at around noon on Friday July 8th -- Dr. C's band is performing that evening and though jetlagged I must attend, it would be wrong not to, so should we plan something around that? As for the rest of the weekend I am open to just about anything, and then I head on up to Glasgow on the 11th. There was a murmuring that Shimura Curve might be up for a show or something around that time but I do not seek to dictate their schedule. :-)

I will also be around in London again at the end of July but that can wait. In the meantime, post all thoughts/suggestions/complaints here. Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

There is a possibility of Trig Brother, but it depends if you're up for that Ned!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure Marianna won't mind me mentioning its her club night at Some Venue What I Have Forgotten on the 8th as well. Possibly featuring DJ The Lex. Oh lord. Ruin.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

I'll come to trig bro! It'll be like a year to the day almost.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

I am VERY much up for that! :-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Seeing Marianna DJ as well would be good, but will it be feasible? Lordy! Too many good things at once.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

**Dr. C's band is performing that evening and though jetlagged I must attend**

Ned, sorry but it seems that I jumped the gun and the 8th was never booked. So we're not playing after all - bugger. Anyway I will see you at some point during yr trip, Im sure.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

A pity! Ah well, another time for that! If nothing else, that leaves that Friday night open for Marianna/Lex's thang...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

take them some burritos, Ned! They're crying out for them!

Yakuza Ghost Six (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Koala tacos, sir. They must know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Yes! Come out to dance!

forget about the sugar
the enterprise, chalk farm
8pm - 1am

A very pretty flyer and further details will be posted shortly.

MWAH! x

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah! Then it is done. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

Well, the 8th July gig is off, but I might be able to find something for the Sunday... will ask the Windmill if they're having a BBQ that afternoon.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

i'll be around

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

I'll be perpendicular.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Thursday, 9 June 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

The Windmill is having a "Friends of Brixton Windmill" BBQ that day. I've asked if we can play at it, with the proviso that we will write and perform a song about the Lost River Effra, with a mention of their windmill in it.

(We are actually officially a Lambeth Band, even though 3/4 of the band don't live anywhere near Lambeth so they might go for it.)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

I'll be staying with the good Mr. Stevie Chick

And then you'll be staying at Stevie Nixed's place. YAY! I'm rrrreally looking forward to it!

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

aw ned finally gets to meet calum in scotland?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

and haha, in glasgow people are going to all call ned, ned.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Why has no-one said "Hooray, Poptimism!"? Is that on the 1st?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

Because we don't know when it will be Andrew! We don't know when the move to Fridays takes effect from.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

A mystery!

A Shimura Sunday BBQ show sounds a treat. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

I'll be staying with the good Mr. Stevie Chick

tell him he must come along to our club night as well!

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Of course! Besides, he's on this board and doubtless will see this thread sooner rather than later.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

the lack of any glasgow plans on this thread is a little worrying. at this rate ned's going to turn up and sit in the pub on his own for two days.

not that there's anything wrong with sitting in the pub on your own for two days ... god, now i'm daydreaming about that. pub. for two days. coo.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

No no, don't fret! I was about to start a separate thread. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

i was going to say.. this thread does say "london" on it.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

A thread for Grimly Fiendish (and others):

Ned in Glasgow -- FAPs/shows/parties/whatever July 11th through 13th

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm in London that weekend... but stuck at a wedding the whole time, worse luck. Anyhow - may mirth and mayhem attend your stay, good sir.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Yay mirth and mayhem! (Keep in mind I will be back in London at the end of July as well -- dates not quite yet set in stone!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Woo! I will come up to London if Mr Archel and I have returned from honeymoon, not sure of our dates yet.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

10th July! BBQ at the Windmill! I don't know how many Shimuras will be performing, but I definitely will!

It's a "local show for local people" (we count as local even though I live on the other side of The Hill) which will be in benefit of the Friends of the Brixton Windmill, so it's for a good cause as well as food and fun! And Ned! Hurrah!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Aargh might be going away and missing both Shimura (again) and Ned! Curses. Glad you'll be around at end July too Ned though and hope we can meet then.

beanz (beanz), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

Bah, humbug. :-(

This is the place:
http://www.windmillbrixton.co.uk/main.php

People who were at the last BBQ know the deal.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

will come up to London if Mr Archel and I have returned from honeymoon, not sure of our dates yet

you're taking dates on your honeymoon???

i'm here all week...

POPTIMISM is, unfortunately for ned, the week after (also if we *are* doing trig bro on the saturday, you wouldn't want those two things back to back unless real actual death in a bin is your goal)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Oh heavens no. That would be obnoxious and the shipping fees a burden on my next-of-kin.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

A club-off is avoided!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Now I'm imagining baby seals not dying. Morrissey would be proud.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

http://www.drownedinsound.com/images/8221.jpg

(i have a feeling that won't work)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

(blimey)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Well a Club Off isn't avoided with Seal. But Seal have 3 nights a month, they are teh gannets.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Plus they play The Killers so they can bugger off frankly

The views of this individual do not necessarily etc.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

is DJ Ollie Russian who plays at Club Seal who I think it is?! If not it's an alarmingly coincidental moniker.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

(ie did DJ Ollie Russian use to be in a certain Oxonian post-rock-and-poetry 'outfit'?)

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

(yes, he djed at clubsussed in oxford once you know)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 10 June 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

I used to fancy him, and I have both of his band's albums :(

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 10 June 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

*bemused*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 10 June 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Yes, the world really is that small. Lex, you know Pauly B from Truck as well, then, don't you?

Are you really going to have a Trig Brother on Saturday? Oh god, people are going to be waazaaaayyy too hungover to come to our BBQ.

I've just found out we're supporting The Ludes. One of them looks disconcertingly like Julian C. The rubbish one, that is, not the good one.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Saturday, 11 June 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

Are you really going to have a Trig Brother on Saturday? Oh god, people are going to be waazaaaayyy too hungover to come to our BBQ.

But I'll make it! C'mon, it can be done. I will just take plenty of aspirin. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 June 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Ah, Ned, it's too bad that you aren't arriving on the 7th July! Sonic Cathedrals, the shoegazing club is that night!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

WTF #1 - Ollie used to play at the original version of Club FT, back in Oxford.

WTF #2 - Paul B above once ran over my hand, in a wheelchair, at a party at Ollie's house

WTF #3 - The Ludes once played in my basement.

Has some sort of New London Indie Mafia sprung up without my noticing?

Also, is July Poptimism on a Friday or Thursday? Dates please, this is very important.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

When did we become sceney? I began to worry when half of the Dogs turned up to a night I help run.

Indie kisses.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, the British indie world in being this small \/ shockah!!!

mwah mwah, darling!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

One of them looks disconcertingly like Julian C. The rubbish one, that is, not the good one.

http://www.epod-central.com/comedy/julianclary/julian1.jpg

good look for a singer that.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

I just came here to suggest some bowling for when Ned is here anyhoo.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Blimey, how many Julian C's are there?

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

I've got the Friday and Monday of this particular weekend off work. The means yay Shimura Ruin on Sunday. Does anyone one to come out and get bollocksed with me on Thursday and turn this into a four-day ILXStock?

(I'd originally thought Poptimism was on the Thursday, which would have been an incredible run).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

Brilliant! I haven't seen you for ages!

Anna (Anna), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

The Poptimism is the Friday afterwards.

I have a horrible feeling I've agreed to cook dinner for my in-laws on the Sunday and will a) be vilely hungover and poison them; b) miss Shimura Curves again.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm just hoping that I don't have to do super-duper MIS business all that weekend... our new application that I'm being brought in to run goes live on the 1st of July and I hope I'm not being optimistic in thinking it might be debugged enough for me not to have to work the second weekend...

(Though I cannot get as wrecked as I would have liked at our gig.)

x=post bah!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

this sounds fun, loads of stuff to do! so, just to clarify, poptimism is actually on the 15th? wonder if my parents will want to come. they're visiting then. scary thought.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Ned, please bear in mind that if you've not been to Ormskirk, all Europe is mere gaudy paste jewellery besides.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 17 June 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

I must note this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 June 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Non-Sense at Bardens. That makes some kind of crazy sense.

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Could you explain?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

God bless ambrose

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to imagine going to that after being at Trig Brother all day. The mind reels.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

Does it?

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Monday, 20 June 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

WTF ask Momus!!!

inotmomus, Monday, 20 June 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

So anyway, the club night next Friday of course, but anyone up for a bite to eat beforehand? All suggestions welcome...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 July 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

belgo on chalk farm road.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 1 July 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

You drunk. (I've been there before, is v. nice.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 July 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Okay, so, the events again of the weekend as such:

ATTN LONDON: Marianna LCL, Ken C and The Lex are putting on a club night on Friday 8 July. Please come and dance!
(as the thread title sez, here)

Saturday July 9th - TRIG BROTHER FIVE (feat. added Ned)
(starts at 2:30 pm, Blue Posts, Newman Street)

And the Shimura Curves show info (scroll down to the 10th) at the Windmill Brixton.

Also Mark S and I were vaguely talking about a lunch on the 11th near Kings' Cross station around 11ish, as from there is where I get up to Luton for a 4 pm EasyJet flight (if this is an unrealistic time crunch given the circumstances, disabuse me of the notion now; I've used Luton Airport a few times now and know the basic routine but not the time needed per se).

Right now for this Friday I'm due to arrive at Heathrow around 12:30 pm and given time to get luggage and due with customs and etc. etc. I presumably won't be at Stevie Chick's until mid-afternoon, possibly late. So I might either vaguely get a bit of sleep or if that would run the danger of me crashing out entirely just make my way back into town for dinner if folks are up for it. Rah etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to be in London tonight, so I might try to get to this Windmill thing.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Sunday, 10 July 2005 07:08 (twenty years ago)

(if I do, and spot any other ILXors, I will try to be brave enough to go up to Ned and say "excuse me? Don't you have a BLUE TIE?")

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

I have to hurt you now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)
