Austin Still (Austin, Still), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

is Vince Vaughn intent on badly re-interpreting every classic "crazy killer" role?

... wait, that's a good idea.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Why the fuck do people bother to do remakes of great films, when there are so many shitty films that could only be improved on? It's like they're trying to soil cinema history so their own hackery won't look so bad.

Jetlag Willy (noodle vague), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Good lord, this is a terrible idea.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Bad remakes of formerly great films seem to be the only ideas at all coming out of Hollywood these days. Remakes are not a new idea in Hollywood, but it seems they're currently in fashion and the problem is not the material itself; it's the way they're being remade and really bad casting. Can any of you imagine J-Lo as Ilsa in Casablanca? It nearly happened! It's so sad to see good films massacred this way. Is there no new material worthy of production?

And what about the trend of old TV shows being made into movies? But that's a whole 'nother thread. Cripes.

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 9 June 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

I don't even know who Vince Vaughan is.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Thursday, 9 June 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Taste the Blood of Scrovula (noodle vague), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

You know, I'll say this, after seeing Batman Begins it's even clearer Nolan can handle suspense, but I don't want him handling *this* kind of suspense.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Is that any relation to Fritz Lang's M?

It's a remake of that one, though one I've never seen.

Eric H: not a troll, with one exception (Eric H.), Saturday, 18 June 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Vince Vaughn is not scary. And we all know he'll try to pull this one off just by frowning a lot. this is just incredibly wrong. And whoever said the original wasn't that great is W.R.O.N.G.

Steve Buscemi is to direct a US remake of 'Interview', one of the final films by the murdered Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh. The original saw a middle-aged journalist interviewing the real-life Dutch star Katja Schuurman in her own loft apartment. The remake will star Buscemi himself alongside Sienna Miller. Van Gogh, a stern critic of radical Islam, was murdered in November 2004.
